68 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2016 | Helen-Ann Bagnall, passed away on July 29, 2016. She was fairly new to the community but loved all the things to do here. She enjoyed bridge with her friends at the Senior Center, and loved helping at the Table of Plenty. She was generous to a fault, never missing an opportunity to help a person in need. Helen-Ann had three children. John (wife Julia), James (wife Wanda), Joy (husband Jim) Krach. Grandchildren are Elizabeth, William, Alex and Michelle Bagnall, Christopher and Katie Bagnall and Bob and William Krach. Stanley Burtis, passed away at his home on July 19, 2016. He was born Aug. 15, 1926 in Cedarhurst, L.I., N.Y. He worked at his family's plumbing business. He was a proud World War II veteran. He and his wife Carol moved to California in 1962 and raised three children. They moved to Sun Lakes in 1992 and enjoyed their wonderful time here. They belonged to the Friendship Club and ICC and made many friends. He was often seen tending to his garden which he loved. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather affectionately known as "Pappy" by his family. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Carol, sons Glenn and Chris (Gwen) and a daughter Lauren, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services were held on his 90th birthday, August 15 at Riverside National Cemetery. John Nelson Freeman II (Jack), age 92, passed away at his home in Banning, surrounded by family on Saturday evening, April 16, 2016. He was born on December 10, 1923 in Independence, Oregon to John and Edith (Elmore) Freeman. Jack attended University High School in Eugene, Oregon from which he graduated from in 1942. Upon Graduating from high school he managed a small hotel for four months. Jack Enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October of 1942 during WWII where he had boot camp training in San Diego, CA. He attended Communication School for four months graduating with a Petty Officer rating before being shipped off to sea for the next two and a half years as a Senior Signalman. At the end of the War he was honorably discharged from the Navy. During his time of service Jack met and married his sweet wife Cora Yanes (Socorro LLanez) on May 20, 1944. After the war they briefly lived in Eugene, Oregon. Six months later they decided to settle down back in the Los Angeles area. Together, they have had five children. John and Cora enjoyed traveling together as well as spending time with family and friends. Jack joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1946. In his first year he was assigned to the city jail where he booked and processed prisoners, preparing them for court. In 1948 he transferred to the Patrol Bureau assigned to the Wilshire Division where he remained for 18 years before transferring to the Communication Division. In late October of 1967 he retired from the LAPD. During his 20 years with the force he made lifelong friendships. Soon after Jack became a U.S. Federal Marshal serving as a Deputy Marshal for the Central District based out of Los Angeles Federal Court Building. In his career he advanced to a supervisor position and became acting chief before he retired in 1987. However retirement was not yet in his plans as he continued on working as a Court Security Officer for the San Bernardino and Riverside Federal Courts. In 1993 Jack and his wife moved to their retirement location in Sun Lakes Country Club. Jack fully retired in 1996 after a long career as a civil servant. Jack's special interests and hobbies included raising a family, playing cards, coin collection, planting trees and gardening. Some of his favorite times were spent playing his daily Gin card game with his brother Rolly and family. He also enjoyed going to the Clubhouse with family and friends to dine and listen to live entertainment. Jack's wife Cora passed in February of 2005. He is survived by his beloved family; daughters; Karen (Stephen), Joyce (Thomas), Kimberly (Stephen); sons, John (Barbara), and Wayne; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; beloved siblings; brothers, Rolly (Joyce), Ken (Mary Emma); sister, Kathryn and many nieces and nephews.
