60 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2016 Racquet Club Our August Play Day enjoyed one of the best turnouts of the year, including non-club guests from as far away as Seattle and Chicago. One such guest was another one of those darn precocious munchkins who was all of eight years old with a nice forehand groundstroke. It's embarrassing when your opponent hits a passing shot, and she can't see over the net. But in 47 years maybe she will join the FSBRC, and then begin to shrink. Following the morning's tennis, 21 players and guests assembled at The Summit for an Eve-of-the-U.S. Open luncheon and trivia contest. With delicious sub sandwiches from the new Fire House Subs restaurant having been devoured, the proverbial prize drawings by our club ambassadors Howard and Mickey Nelson began. Howard spiced things up a bit this time by allowing the winners to "steal" prizes from the other winners. Barb Miller was the lucky first winner, and she was enticed to select the limited edition fake book, which Howard purported was originally shared by Romeo and Juliet on their first night together, or some baloney like that. Appropriately for Barbara, who is the club's parsimonious Treasurer, the fake book contains a secret compartment for hiding money. But it's not secret anymore. The next winner was Padoo Peralta, and she chose the storm lantern with the electronic votive candle inside. It was suggested that the lamp could be used on the front stoop as a signal that Bingo may be occurring and additional guests should drive on by. I don't know what that means, but it doesn't matter because the third winner was Syed Ali and he "stole" the lamp from Padoo. Consequently, she was left with the final Nelson prize, a big ol' alarm clock sans alarm. The U.S. Open trivia contest had some really obscure factoids dredged up by Irve. Winners included Richard Carrasco and Garrett Warman. We welcome new member Dennis Gunnarson, who has been on the court on a regular basis. We look forward to our annual meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18 in The Lodge. The meeting will include a catered dinner and the annual report from President Sturner; it should be great fun. Again this year, there will be a bring-a-gift, get-a-gift activity, so everyone can end up a winner. Sort of like tee-ball. Check out www.fsbrc.org. ~ Steven Hovey
