With the holidays right around the corner, what better way to shop for the special people in your life than taking a short trip to your Main Clubhouse Ballroom? Starting at 9 am on Fri., Nov. 4 come down and check out all the unique gifts and crafts that have been made by your fellow Sun Lakes residents. There is something for everyone and everything has been made with love. Admission is free and door prizes will be given away each day. Vendor sign-ups will start Mon., Oct. 3 at 8 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Annual Veterans Walk: Sat., Nov. 12, 9:30 – 11:30am. Please join us for our 5th Annual Veterans Walk to honor all who have served for our country. This walk will be held inside Sun Lakes and all the proceeds from this event will be going to the local VFW Troop 233. Last year we raised over $7,800 and our goal this year is to surpass that. It will consist of a two mile walk around Country Club Drive to Riviera, and back up Country Club Drive to the Main Clubhouse. If you don't feel you can do the two miles, there are turn back increments at half a mile, one mile and 1.5 miles so there is a walk for everyone. Registration forms can be picked up at the Recreation Desk. The cost is $20 pp (checks only) and includes a goodie bag with an event T-shirt, continental breakfast after the walk and an opportunity to listen to a couple of decorated veterans. For any resident unable to walk, you can still participate by entering your golf cart into the event. We ask that the carts be decorated with a U.S. Flag, a Service Flag, or a Wounded Warrior Flag to support the event. Please note, golf cart use is for disabled residents ONLY. If you know anyone who would like to sponsor this event, please have them contact Jason at 769-6651. Continental Breakfast is for participants only. Please carpool or use your golf cart to come up to the starting line. Veterans Walk Schedule: 9:30 am: Presentation of Colors and National Anthem; 9:40 am: START OF THE WALK; 10 – 10:30 am: Continental Breakfast; 11 am: Veteran Speakers; 11:30 am: Closing Remarks UPCOMING EVENTS For more information please contact the Recreation desk at 845-2191 Catch a Wave - Beach Boys Tribute: Sun., Nov. 20, in the Main Ballroom, doors open at 1 pm, show at 2 pm, $10 pp. Fun, Sun and Surf sets the backdrop for this recreation of the 1960s Beach Boys with Catch A Wave. Vocal harmonies are beyond belief! They sport the authentic details you remember, recreating the 1960s Beach Boys right down to the white instruments, blue and white stripe shirts, and wavy hair. They evoke the unique California harmonic surf-pop sound that is so recognizable around the world. Catch A Wave has performed in Japan, Holland, South America, French Polynesia, New Zealand, Mexico, The Caribbean, The South Pacific as well as performing regularly at Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure theme park. This is one show you won't want to miss out on. Get your tickets now! District Tree Lighting: Thurs., Dec. 1, 5 pm. Join the Recreation Department for a holiday kickoff! We will light the decorated District Christmas Trees in the front of the Main Clubhouse! Afterwards, come in the ballroom for hot cider, hot chocolate, cookies, and holiday entertainment provided by Barber Shop Chorus, Tap Dance, Makua Hula Hawaiian Dance, Precision Stardust Dancers, International Dancers and a special performance from Spectrum Dance Studio in Beaumont. We will even be lucky enough to get a surprise visit from good old Saint Nick himself. So make sure you stop by to get your picture taken with him and let him know what you want for Christmas. New Year's Eve Party: Sat., Dec. 31, 6:30 pm – 12:30 am, doors open at 6 pm. Mark this spectacular evening on your calendar! The Annual New Year's Eve Party is around the corner.
