FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2016 57
Take a Hikers went to lunch at the beach in September. The choice
for our cuisine experience was the Beachcomber restaurant in Crystal
Cove. Oh, yes, we did take a stroll along the surf before and after our
repast but that was anti-climactic. The salt air, clear skies and gentle
breezes created the ambiance needed for a perfect ending to the
grueling gauntlet of the 91 freeway. Four Seasons needs an airfield
for service to exotic places as the apprehension of the return voyage
always curtails this idyllic hike. One direction from our favorite
eating spot is clear sand - a passageway with surf on one side and
decaying house from movie sets of the 1920s on the other. The other
direction is tide pools and eroding cliffs on the other. Across the
great ocean fuzzy images of Santa Catalina emerges like the dream in
the song — The Island of Romance.
But, it is the meals that whetted appetites devour that sparks
the conversation of our group. This day 19 regulars and newbies
converged at the maître d's station upon arrival to double check
that reservations were made. Once the only reason for the trip was
satisfied, beach walking could commence. In smaller groups at
varying paces shoes were removed and toes tickled the cold blue
waters rushing shoreward. It was truly an escape from the pressures
of retirement life at Four Seasons.
