FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2016 15 By Cindy Graves The floating smiley face balloons and colored stars greeted the curious neighbors who thought they'd come into the Ballroom to check out the various committee tables, manned by some of Four Seasons finest residents. The smell of delicious pizza from the Bistro helped with the allure and drew people from the front of the room displays, clear to the back where the pizza feast sat in reward of their efforts. Lots of good conversations ensued during the two hours of the event and I think most people came away with a better understaning on what it takes to keep the community running. Jerry Monahan was the head of this little affair and even though my staff worked the event, Jerry's committee did all of the planning and a great job they did! I would say we had around 150 people in attendance, "Open House style;" some of whom won some pretty cool gifts in the door prize raffle. Thank you to Jerry's committee for donating those great prizes. Obviously, the purpose of this event was to inform and match residents with one of the 11 HOA committees. At the conclusion of the event we received nine applications to committees and others took applications to think about participating. Being part of a committee has historically been extremely fulfilling for folks as they see their hard work, research and planning, materialize into solid investments in the Four Seasons community. The biggest personal benefits to most people, in my opinion, are the bonds of friendship that develop with the regular camaraderie. The respect that blooms as committees recognize, value and lean on individuals who have the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise in a particular project, cannot be measured. Perhaps that is why it seems so difficult for the members when a beloved member finds that it is time to explore new avenues of involvement. The bonding that was built, however, remains intact, neighbor to neighbor, regardless of expanded interests. This new year, as you determine your priorities for 2017, consider whether your schedule might allow for some extra relationship building and participating for the good of the whole community. I think you'll be glad you did.
