Fishing secrets: Hopefully this will help some of you to put more fish on your stringer. My father, who passed away a number of years ago, was a great fisherman. When he went to Mexico he always brought back fish for the family to eat. He never told me his secret as to how he caught so many fish. I ran into an old fishing buddy of my dad who used to go fishing with him in Mexico. I asked his friend if he would reveal my father's fishing secret. He told me that every time my dad went fishing in Mexico he would take some extra money with him. If he did not catch any fish in the ocean he would go to the fish market and buy fish to bring home. Not only was my dad a good fisherman, he was also a smart one. Ron Erickson, who is a resident of Four Seasons, told me the other day that he enjoyed reading the fishing articles. However, he also told me that in the articles I never said where I caught fish. So, if you promise not to tell anyone, I will tell you where my favorite secret fishing spots are located. The first fishing place is Yucaipa Regional Park in Yucaipa, California. It only takes 20 minutes to get to the park from Four Seasons. There are three lakes at the park and the best one to fish is the top lake. Use Berkley Power Bait with the garlic scent and be ready to take home some fish for dinner. The second secret spot is Diamond Valley Lake located in Hemet, California. If you go on a Wednesday, you can rent a boat for half price if you are a senior. Ask the people at the marina and they will tell you where to go to catch fish. They will also advise you on what bait to use and what type of fish are hitting that day. The third secret spot is the Salton Sea located in North Shore California. It takes about one hour and 30 minutes to get to the Salton Sea from Four Seasons. Go to the Salton Sea State Park located on the Hwy. 111 side of the sea. Fish off the jetty and get ready to take home a bunch of fish. My wife caught so many fish that she complained that her hands hurt. I complained my hands hurt because I had to clean all the fish she caught. The best time to go to Salton Sea is in May. Now I want to be very truthful to all my friends that are thinking about going fishing. There are no secrets when it comes to fishing. All you have to do is ask any fisherman and he will answer any question about fishing that you might care to ask. I use the internet to book fishing trips or find out where the best places are to go fishing. Google will get you started on the ground floor of fishing and will be as close as your computer or cell phone. Tight lines to all my fishing friends and remember: People who go fishing are the happiest people in the world. ~ Richard Carrasco 54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2016 Fishing Club Richard Carrasco with a five pound channel cat from a nearby lake
