EXCURSIONS EXCURSION SIGN UPS: THURS., DEC. 1, 8 AM THESE EXCURSIONS AREN'T SOLD OUT? SHOCKING! The New Nixon Library w/ Lunch at Polly's Pies Tues., Feb. 7, 8:45 am – 3:45 pm, $52 pp, lunch included. On the 25th anniversary of the Nixon Library, July 20, 2015, the Nixon Foundation announced the permanent museum galleries would be closing for their first major remodel. The galleries reopened on Oct. 14, 2016 after a $15 million renovation project funded entirely by private donations raised by the Nixon Foundation. On this day you will have the opportunity to take a docent tour of the museum at the New Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, situated on nine acres in Southern California. In addition to exhibitions, the grounds include President Nixon's helicopter and birthplace. Visitors are also invited to see the special exhibit galleries, which show a variety of rotating exhibits related to our mission as a national institution and local landmark. One of the highlights of a trip to the museum is the chance to step foot aboard Army One; the helicopter used by Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. Extensively restored and now on permanent display at the library, the helicopter presents visitors with a rare chance to see how presidents traveled aboard one of the most storied aircrafts ever made. The helicopter, which seats 16 and cost $1 million to construct in 1960, is a six-ton Sikorsky VH 3A Sea King. During its presidential service, the helicopter was known either as Marine One or Army One, depending on whether Marine or Army pilots were operating the craft. There is an extensive collection of memorabilia, artifacts, formal clothing, and photographs of the Nixon's and their children. This collection includes an assortment of bronze figures of world leaders who had important relations with Nixon as president or during his service as Vice-President under President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961. You will see a 28-minute film on the life and political career of President Nixon. There are 23 galleries throughout the library you can meander through. After your tour of the library, you will head next door to Polly's Pies for a delicious lunch. Please make your menu choice at time of sign-ups.
