52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2017 Billiards for Fun We kicked off the new Billiards for Fun Group 2017 on Jan. 3, and even though it's still a vacation time, we had a great attendance at both sessions. Above are some freeze-frames of our outstanding players as they lined up their shots. On Jan. 10 Jeff Jordan took our group photo to replace the 2016 photo, and then Dave Martin used his skills to photoshop any missing players into the photo. Many thanks and kudos go to Dave Martin for his willingness to help in this project. Drop by and check out the new photo on the wall in the Billiards Room, or on the TV by the theater. On Jan. 30 we held the first-ever competition against the women's billiards group, the Curly Cues. It was an interesting tournament, and lots of fun for everyone. Winners will be announced in the March issue of the Breeze. Feb. 7 we will hold our first Billiards for Fun potluck in the first section of the Ballroom. As usual, players and their wives are invited and the fare is always exceptional. Then on Feb. 21 we will hold our first quarterly tournament of the new year. A whole section of name slots on our plaque are waiting to be filled with our winners. If you are interested in playing pool with a wonderful group of men and women, come check us out at one of our two sessions every Tuesday: 11 am to 1 pm OR 1 to 3 pm. Or join the weekly informal practice session on Saturdays from 11 am to 1 pm. Hope to see you soon. ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Larry Rice has established himself as our club's premier player of the year with an outstanding two month run of wins. In both 8-Ball and 9 Ball in-house tournaments for both November and December, he has cleared the opposing field of contenders. This year, Larry was either the winner or the runner-up in tournament finals a total of 14 times: a club record. Congratulations to Larry for a great year of pool in-house tournaments. As Larry himself would say, it hasn't been a rout by any means. He has had to earn the wins he secured, but secure them he did. The December results were as follows: in 8-Ball against Leo Babin, Larry won and again in 9 Ball against Mary Ann Diehl he won. Leo, during the 8-Ball tournament, won three games in a row to play in the finals after suffering an early loss to Larry in the third round. Mary Ann during the 9 Ball contest had to win four games in a row including a semi-final against Larry but fell victim in the last game. Throughout the year it was a pleasure to participate in these friendly competitions and to watch as our teammates competed in the final matches. I think I can speak for the 8-Ball Club when I wish our community a very Happy New Year and say to all, have some fun, come on down to the Billiards Room Monday, any Wednesday or any Friday at 7 pm and meet our group of talented players. You may want to join our club and participate in the coming year or just practice with us for the fun of it.
