52 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2017 | Sun Lakers & Friends The winter blahs are starting to lift and our Tuesday league is "rolling" along. How about a few zingers I've heard around the lanes… "All with the ball;" "Straighter is Greater;" "Follow through to your target." See you at Morongo! Sun Lakers III Upon reading this, we are now more than halfway through the winter league and our bowling prowess is in true form, or not. For some of us a good lesson from Norris at Canyon Lanes is in order. Week 15 saw the "4-Newbies," Steve Horn, Stephanie Franklin, Jackie and Greg Kent slip out of last place, how can you lose that? Well congrats to team "Ten in the Pit," Dottie and George Johsz, Marlene Zande and Herb Breuer. The number one spot contender as of this writing is team "Alley Oops," Terry Brown, Mae Brock, Linda Jennings and Ron Kroch, also with the highest handicap series of 2705. Individual kudos to last week's Men's/Women's Scratch Series: Andy Toro-685, Barbara Semic-493; Scratch Game: Rick Waters-236, Maureen Farra-205; Handicap Series: Joe Griffin-720, Earline Edwards-695; Handicap Game: Bob Mejia-264, Ida Nily-251. The holiday cheer and buffet was very good, though the food didn't seem to improve my game, I can't bowl and wonder at the same time if there are any cookies left. Also I'm thinking a morning happy hour might be in order and required to make that improvement happen! Just remember kids, don't drink and drive. One last point of interest with some new and old players within our esteem league, there seems to be some confusion about when it's your turn to bowl. To enhance expeditious play of our games, with electronic scoring, the game board will post the player's name at the bottom of the respective alley lane when it's your turn to bowl. Some teams bowl fast, others slow, either way the board is in control, so please take heed and most of all, enjoy the game, the time and the friendly competition at play. I must say once again this is the finest group of people that I've ever been blessed to regularly compete with. If you are interested in becoming part of this group call Teri Comerford at (760) 217-9656. Home Again Bowling As we enter the new year with high hopes, we find a new leading team! Team 2, "XXX Seekers" with Micki Elsing, Linda Costell, Mike Draney and Ken Elsing. They won all four games against Team 9, "Recycled Teens" with Dottie Lucas, Joe Lawrence, Darlena Stevens and Jim McCallum on Dec. 28 which was our halfway position week. The week before Christmas, Tony McLean provided us with some excitement with a great score of 248, finishing with eight strikes in a row. This gave him a 320 with handicap and a 770 series with handicap! And moved his team, "Balls and Dolls" with Kathy Snider, Teri McLean and Ben Snider into second place going into the new year. Way to go Tony! High scores to date: Women's High Scratch Game: Sue Sloan, 205; Louise Deal, 201; Connie Matty, 197. Women's High Scratch Series: Sue Sloan, 536; Micki Elsing, 515; Connie Matty, 513.
