28 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2017 | Yiddish Culture Club Did you know that a defendant in a lawsuit filed and tried in England, unlike the United States, is considered to be guilty until proven innocent? The burden of proof is on the defendant! On Wed., Feb. 8, at 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse, the Yiddish Culture Club will present the film Denial starring Rachel Weisz as American academic and author Deborah E. Lipstadt. This is a first-hand account of the 1996 libel lawsuit brought against her by British historian and Holocaust denier, David Irving (Timothy Spall). The trial is held in England where Lipstadt must have a legal team to represent her and provide evidence that the Holocaust really occurred. The lone decider of the verdict will be a judge instead of a jury. "The historical event that is being negated in this morally charged legal procedural is a whopper way beyond the usual pale: that Adolf Hitler never ordered the extermination of six million European Jews during World War II. The Holocaust didn't exist." Everyone is welcome to join us for this film which will keep your interest intent on the story as well as the acting from beginning to end. Coffee and cake will be served. There is no charge for YCC members; guest charge is $3. No reservations necessary. Info., Diane, 769-0130. Calling all men!
