| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2017 | 29
The Friendship Club's next presentation will be on Feb. 12. The
show, called 70s and Sunny, stars Andrea McArdle, the original Annie
on Broadway.
McArdle was discovered by a talent agent who got her into
television commercials, which in turn
led to a 2½-year stint on the soap
opera, Search for Tomorrow. Her big
break came in 1977 when she replaced
the star in the Broadway musical
Annie, during rehearsals. The show
was a smash hit, and McArdle became
the youngest performer ever to be
nominated for a Tony Award as Best
Lead Actress in a Musical.
McArdle appeared several times
on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny
Carson, The Mike Douglas Show, and
Welcome Back Kotter. She played Judy
Garland in NBC's telepic Rainbow, and performed in Les Misérables,
Jerry's Girls, Beauty and the Beast, Starlight Express, Meet Me In St.
Louis, The Wizard of Oz, They're Playing Our Song, and Annie Get Your
Gun. In 1979, she sang the national anthems of both the United States
and Canada at the Major League Baseball All Star Game in Seattle,
Washington.
Tickets for 70s and Sunny are $20 for members, and $25 for non-
