| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2017 | 3 By Doug Swenson FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK Over the last couple of years, the subject of holes 14, 15, and 16 on the Championship course have been brought up many times in regards to repairs needed. The cause was runoff from a storm drain that comes from Beaumont. Whenever it rains, water runs along the west side of Highland Springs from the CHP office, under 1st Street and into a drain that then goes under Highland Springs Ave. coming on to the course behind 16 green. This was a designed runoff which, were it to be only water, would not have caused any issues. However, since the area in Beaumont is undeveloped, the runoff not only contains water but a large amount of silt. This silt builds up on the golf course causing many different problems. We have now reached an agreement with Loma Linda Hospital who owns the property in Beaumont and the city of Beaumont to resolve this problem. This plan is now finalized and we are all waiting for it to be executed. It was supposed to be completed before the rainy season of 2016/2017. It now looks like it will be finished in the spring. Once it is complete, we will put into place a plan to correct all the problems. It has been a long process but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Over the last several months, Sun Lakes Country Club has been having an ongoing situation with the US Postal Service. There has been a "snorkel" drop-off mailbox by the entrance to the Main Clubhouse forever. The original box allowed our residents to drive up and drop off their mail without getting out of their vehicles. One day it was damaged and replaced by the US postal Service with a different type of box. The new one requires getting out of the car, stepping up on the curb, and walking around the box to put in the mail. The Master Board didn't think this was right since it presented an unsafe situation. The US Postal Service said they would not replace it. After many hours of discussion by members of PCM, we now have a new "snorkel" mailbox. We have been informed that if this new one gets damaged they will not replace it. In the interest of safety for the mailbox and the residents, we are looking to relocate it to a place where our residents would have easier access. The spot we have decided on is just outside of the Administration building as you drive around the north east end of the parking lot. It will be located on the median so it is on the driver's side of the vehicle. It will be very simple to pull up to with your vehicle. We plan on making this change in the next month once all the preparation work is complete.
