FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2017 53 This group is growing in so many ways. Not only do we now have 24 members (see photo above), but their skills are expanding as well. On Jan. 23 we held our first quarterly in-house tournament of 2017 when Janine Rohrbacker and Donna Lewis took first place, and Teri Martin and Alex Vanhoose took second place. Their names are now permanently installed on the new Curly Cues plaque in the billiards room. Come by and check it out! (The winners' photos will appear in the April issue of the Breeze.) The following week, the ladies invited the Billiards for Fun Group to a first-ever competition on Jan. 30. There were 15 people from each club who signed up, so we had lots of game rotations. In all fairness, many of the men in the BFFG had played for up to 40 years (versus the ladies only playing for 6 to 12 months), so they were given two handicaps: (1) the ladies were able to remove any two balls from the table after they were established, and (2) the guys had to put the 8-ball in whatever pocket their last ball was pocketed. It was a lot of fun, and challenging to all, but the Curly Cues partnership of Janine Rohrbacker and Leta Ramirez were undefeated as they took on Pete Antoine and David Thomason (who had lost just one game) so Dave and Pete had to beat them twice. Dave and Pete won the first game, but the #2 handicap proved to be the culprit on the last game, so the ladies won the tournament. YAY! (See above photo of our winners!) Next year, however, there will be an even-playing tournament ~ no handicaps! February was tournament-free. We held our bi-monthly luncheon at a local restaurant, hosted by Beverly Lunetta. Our luncheons are always well-attended and lots of fun. We then returned to the Lodge and learned how to play 1/15, the game that is played at the Hemet Oldlympics. Many of the ladies were challenged to sign up for the Oldlympics in October, so they will have several months to practice 1/15. If you are interested in learning how to play billiards (pool), we can arrange a time to teach you, or if you want to dust off your skills, please come join a great group of ladies who always have a great time playing billiards together. We meet every Monday at 1 to 3 pm in the Billiards Room. Come join us! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Curly Cues Leta Ramirez and Janine Rohrbacker The Curly Cues Group
