Cruzin' Cronies is a classic car club that meets the first Saturday of each month. Cars are displayed at 8 am in the Main Clubhouse parking lot, after which we meet briefly in the Multipurpose Room at 8:30 am, and then go to breakfast together to enjoy each other's company. There are no dues, just friendship, outings, and laughter. You don't even need a classic car to be a part of this happy group! Neil Torrence won "Best in Show" for his 1942 Packard Formal Sedan at December's Bob's Big Boy show in Calimesa. There will be a Crossroads Car Show at the Benedictine Castle in Riverside on Sun., March 26. Registration forms are available to download from their website,www.crossroadscarshows.com. Then you are invited to join us for a casual, open mic type music jam session. You can find us in the North Clubhouse on the first Sunday of each month through November from 3:30 to 6 pm. We look forward to meeting more of Sun Lake's talented musicians. Feel free to come and observe the fun until you feel comfortable to play. We are hoping that this year more of you will get together to jam on a song or two. Hosts Lee and Michael Stone provide a professional sound system, including three mics, stands and a CD player. You, the performer, supply your own instrument and backing track music on CD, if needed. Please sign up when you arrive as performers will play in that order. Depending on how many folks sign up, you may each be able to play two or three songs of your choice. Our goal is to provide a supportive venue for you to play, at whatever level you may be at this moment. Singers have Karaoke – now the musicians have Musicians' Jam. (Singers welcome – bring your own backing tracks or musician to play for you.) Makua Hula group has been teaching hula lessons for free in Sun Lakes for about 15 years. We are starting a beginners class now. It is a good time for you to start from the beginning learning the beautiful Hawaiian dances. If you would like to become part of our group, and enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian and Tahitian dances that we present, please contact Olga Marquette at (951) 846-3579. It is fun and good exercise. We meet on Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 noon at the North Clubhouse and on Saturdays from 8 to 10 am at the stage in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Aloha!. Makua Hula We offer a full Luau Entertainment for your private party or club! Of the 40+ cars Paul Reneau has owned in his life (so far), his red 1988 Nissan 300ZX Straman conversion convertible is one of his favorites. "In high school," he explained, "I drove a 1959 MGA roadster, a 1949 Studebaker, and a 1948 Harley Davidson." Paul was a farm boy from Oregon, with six brothers and three sisters. "I was strong and I learned how to fix anything — you have to growing up on a farm," he laughed. He became an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force after high school, serving in Okinawa, TTY in Vietnam, and Washington State. It was in Tacoma where he bought his 1962 Corvette roadster. "In junior college, I had a Singer, which I bought for $75." After the service, Paul got his BA in business at Cal State Fullerton, and became a very successful small business owner. He sold whiskey, cars, TVs and appliances, and life insurance. He owned three flower shops in Orange County, and a pool maintenance company. After six heart operations ("I never buy green bananas — I'm on borrowed time!"), he finally sold his businesses and retired three years before he and Bev, his wife of 22 years, moved to Sun Lakes from Huntington Beach. They like to travel and have gone on many cruises. They enjoy Sun Lakes very much, and what they love best are "the people." "Retirement is magnificent," he said.
