6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2017 | Thousands of people less fortunate in the greater San Gorgonio Pass area benefit from the vision of the founding board members of the Sun Lakes Country Club Charitable Trust. Founders include Patrick Griffin, Margaret Monahan, Elwood Catalano, Janet Catalano, John Clark, Salvatore Formino, Evelyn Hawkins and Robert Cain. The current Board of the 501(c)(3) Charitable Trust includes Joe Formino, a founding member, Ken Mills, Treasurer; Gaylord Spence, Secretary; David Kealy, Chair; Doug Swenson, Jim Miller, Karen Clavelot and Beverly Simmons. The trust is affectionately called the Sun Lakes Charity and each June a committee of over 100 volunteers stage the events of Charity Week making this the largest fundraising event of the year. Over the past two years the Board of the Sun Lakes Charity has expanded the fund-raising activities beyond the traditional Charity Week events. The charity was established to help those less fortunate in our surrounding communities and that is accomplished by providing money to qualified charities. Last year, $95,500 was provided to 30 non-profit organizations. Everyone can contribute for the good of the community either by participating in one of the fun events during the week, or by purchasing a ticket for the raffle, helicopter ball drop, or bidding on one of the many exciting items at the auction. Check out our scheduled events and mark your calendar for a great time during Charity Week 2017. If you are looking for a fun and inexpensive way to participate in Charity Week, come to Party Bingo, held on Tues., June 20 at 4 pm. For $25 you will receive a players 6on pack with approximately 13 games. You will also receive a ticket for a free drink (beer, wine or soda) along with a free dabber and door prize ticket. We have lots of door prizes to give away. There will be snacks at your table and we will have a bar in the room for the purchase of additional drinks. We are planning on a hot dog cart in the room or on the Veranda for a minimal fee (hot dog, chips, soda). We will have music and entertainment. Each game will pay the winner cash prizes.
