There were chipping and putting contests, and videos of some of our players on the course. Good Mexican food and some great socializing. We have two BBQs and another banquet later in the year. The holes- in-one continue. Jim Allender got an ace on March 28. Congratulations Jim. We welcome you to come out and enjoy golf with our Club. This will include membership in the club as well as membership in the SCGA, who will provide you with an official bi-monthly handicap. We have tournaments every Tuesday throughout the year including individual play as well as team play. I encourage you to join so that you may also enjoy the camaraderie and fun of playing with great members as I do. For more information contact Elliot Yaeger at ey1611@gmail.com or (951) 223-3735. From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: The first written rules for the game of golf came in 1744. The R&A of Scotland and the USGA began managing the rules of golf in 1890s. In 1952 the R&A of Scotland and the USGA began working together on a set of uniform rules for the world. The decisions are published every two years in the even years. The rules are changed every four years. The last major revision of the rules occurred in 1984. Another major revision is in the works. There are 33 major changes currently proposed. There is a goal to simplify the rules. The total number of rules would go from the current 34 rules to 24. The proposed changes that are finalized in 2018 will become effective January 1, 2019. If you are curious about the changes, go to the USGA website (www.usga.org) and read the summary of the changes. You will have to wait to use most of these changes until January 1, 2019. Golf clubs and courses can adopt a local rule to implement the proposed change which eliminates a penalty for accidentally moving a ball on the green while marking or placing the ball. This would also remove a penalty for ball movement not caused by the player. There is a survey you can take on the USGA site about the proposed changes.
