Cruzin' Cronies is a Classic Car Club that meets the first Saturday of each month. We display our cars at 8 am in the Main Clubhouse parking lot, and then meet briefly in the Multipurpose Room at 8:30 am. During the meeting, we plan group trips to various venues and report on car shows many of us have attended or plan to attend. After the meeting, we go out for breakfast to enjoy each other's company. Join Cruzin' Cronies on Sat., July 1. We'll make final plans for our participation in the Sun Lakes Fourth of July Parade. Several of our cars will be carrying Banning City Council members who live in Sun Lakes. FEATURED CAR The car of the month is a 2008 Chrysler Crossfire convertible owned by Jim and Joann McDonald. They were looking for a second car to play around in, so they went to Play Toys, a classic car consignment venue along the 10 freeway near Yucaipa. While there, Jim saw a two-door Pontiac Solstice that he liked. "I slid into the driver's seat," he laughed, "but it was too low for me, and I couldn't get out! I was stuck! It took two guys to pull me out!" Then he spotted the Crossfire. It had a stick shift, but Jim took it out for a test drive anyway. "He just had that look in his eye," said Joann, "and I knew he was going to buy it." Their first "play-around" car had been a snazzy 1984 Nissan 280ZX. The Crossfire is the first convertible they've ever owned. The McDonalds met while Jim was stationed in Plattsburgh Air Force Base in New York State, and JoAnn was a freshman at Plattsburgh Teachers College. She became an RN, and worked in the healthcare industry. Jim left the AF after 10 years and worked as a truck driver for 13 years. He then moved on to sell men's clothing, from which he retired after 24 years. They moved to San Bernardino from Olean, NY after the blizzard of 1977, during which they had been isolated for an entire week. "The weather was awful there in upstate New York," said Jim. "Sometimes you could see all four seasons within an hour!" The couple moved to Sun Lakes in 2000. They have been married for 55 years and have three children. 28 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2017 | Cruzin' Cronies There will be no meetings of the Photo Group during July and August. This has always been vacation time though, why would anyone leave Sun Lakes in summer? The next meeting will be on Sept. 11. Meetings are always held at the Sun Lakes Main Clubhouse Multi-Purpose room at 7 pm on the second Monday of the month. A reminder on the Sept. meeting will be in the September issue of Lifestyles. Hope everyone had a good time in June at our annual potluck picnic. Take plenty of photographs during summer. You can bring up to five on a CD or flash drive (thumb drive). If you have seen our tutorial on the Rule of Thirds, try to do that in your summer photos. As they say in the song: "See you in September." Photo Group Sun Lakes Residents
