Are you looking for some fun things to do during the long hot summer? Here are some events that might take your minds off the heat. Aug. 5: Limbo Luau Dust off your Aloha attire, start limbering up those hips and come join your YAH friends in a fun Luau at the North Clubhouse. There will be delicious food, music, special entertainment, fun games and even a limbo contest. Doors open at 5 pm with dinner served at 5:30 pm. The pool will be open at 4 pm for early birds and there will be special Hawaiian "pu-pus" (aka appetizers) available for your enjoyment. BYOB and glasses. Cost is $12.50 pp. Seating is limited, so get your checks in ASAP. Theresa Van Haren is the contact person for the event (424-215-4218). Checks can be dropped off at 6029 Turnberry St. Sept. 24: Killer Dueling Pianos This event is a Vegas style show in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom from 4 to 7 pm. Appealing to all ages, The Killer Dueling Pianos will have you clapping, singing, and laughing with their special brand of entertainment. With a catalog of songs ranging from the likes of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley to Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, everyone is sure to have a fun time. This event will be open to all Sun Lakes residents and their guests. There will be table seating in the round and appetizers available for purchase. Cost is $17.50 pp. Gather up your friends and family and reserve a table. Submit your checks together and drop them off at 6253 Ponte Verde Circle. Sandy Richman is the contact person for this event (769-7595). Look for flyers in the Main Clubhouse lobby display for more information. Don't miss out on this super fun event. Get your checks in early. Oct 21: Spooktacular Halloween Party This event is in the early planning stages but promises to be a "hair raising" event. With Barbara Searcy as the event planner, it's bound to be out of sight! Save the date! November: TBA Dec. 31: New Years Eve Gala Sandy Alexanian, Jerry and Marilyn Woodard are already making plans for this most popular event. There will be more information to come in future Lifestyles. I'm A Yankee Doodle Dandy! Come help us celebrate the 41st birthday of our beloved nation. Catering will be serving their delicious tri-tip, baked beans, potato salad, fruit salad and carrot cake for dessert. Wow, what a fantastic dinner. The new group, So Rare, will be performing and I hear that they will knock your socks off! If you live in Sun Lakes, you may come as a guest one time only, and then you WILL WANT to join the club. Yearly membership is $15. Guests living outside of Sun Lakes and are friends of a resident are welcome at $16 pp. Make checks payable to Social Singles and drop your checks off at Pat Corrall's home, 5826 Lake Buena Vista, 769-0957. Those that want to sit together should put their checks in one envelope. Reservations and cancellations must be in the FRIDAY BEFORE the dinner. July 19: Movie: Sully, free. 6 pm, Main Clubhouse Ballroom. The true story of the "Miracle on the Hudson." Tom Hanks stars in this epic true story of the emergency landing of U.S. Airways Flight 1549 and the lives that were saved. Dinner at 4 pm in the restaurant. Please call Helen Thorne at 845-8437 for dinner reservations by Sat., July 15. Show starts at 6 pm. Aug. 6: Concert Violinist Maki Sowash, $15. Main Clubhouse Ballroom, 2 pm. To the delight of Sun Lakers, she's back! The beautiful classical music of Ms. Sowash and her fellow musicians have thrilled us yearly. Maki is a violinist with the San Francisco Opera (and the daughter-in-law of Sun Laker Lorene Sowash). Reception and refreshments following the concert.
