Paddle Tennis
We just completed a fun paddle tennis tournament and lobbing
contest. Due to time constraints, not wanting to play when it's too
hot, we did a single elimination contest. That means if you lost a set,
you were out. The sets were first team to win three games. We played
from 8 am to about 9:15 am. Then regular play resumed.
Ali and Bruce took first place, Alan and Tracy took second place,
and Dan and Terry took third. We chose teams using a random draw,
so you did not know who your partner would be until the morning
of the tournament.
The lobbing contest consisted of lobbing 10 balls from behind the
service line and getting one point for landing inside the back court
rectangle. There was one person stationed in the middle of the court
so that if your lob was too low, he could send it back. There were 13
contestants. I was lucky to defeat one of the former champs, Ali, at
the last minute by scoring 6 out of 10 to his 5.
Both contests were a lot of fun and the tournament was attended
by many people. Some just came to watch.
For those of you who would like to try to play paddle tennis, we
welcome all newcomers. If you have watched some of our play, you
may think that our game is too aggressive for your level or style of
play, don't be intimidated by that. We always treat beginners gently
and, if you prefer, we would designate one of the courts to novice
players so they can get acclimated to the game.
Come out and join us for exercise and social interaction. Everyone
likes to win, but having fun takes precedence. ~ Terry Miller
