22 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2017 Yes, the Lodge (and surrounding buildings) DID need painting. You can see the difference between the old surface on the left and the newly-painted surface on the right. Updates on a few improvement projects initiated by your Facilities Committee: Painting the Lodge, RCN Building, and Salon/Fitness Building: These highly-used facilities, constructed nearly 11 years ago, have had the exteriors repainted, which helps to preserve the look of our premier retirement community. The painting contractor will also straighten our flagpole out in front of the Lodge. This project was fully funded by reserves, so there is no impact on our operational funds. Sidewalk repair in our community: The HOA has contracted with BPR Inc., who has started to repair 397 identified places on our community sidewalks that require attention. Such raised edges of sidewalks are fairly common occurrences as a community ages over time as subsoil can settle slightly. The HOA is managing the repairs to Phases A and B of our community and the builder, K. Hovnanian, is addressing the remaining phases. Summit re-work of the Bocce Ball Court and Horseshoe venue: As the Breeze goes to press for the August issue, we anticipate that completed improvements to the Bocce Ball Court should make it easier for players who use mobility devices (e.g., walkers, canes, etc.) to use the courts. Extending the width of the horseshoe pitching platforms, increasing the height of the backstops, and installing benches, among other things will make the horseshoe venue more functional and user-friendly. Installation of automatic door openers in the Lodge: The men's/women's restrooms in the Lodge did not have easy access through the entry doors for disabled persons until the HOA Board approved a project initiated by the Facilities Committee to remedy the situation. New automatic entry doors for restroom access are scheduled to be installed by Aug., 1 for both restrooms in the Theater hallway opposite the Library. These improvements will make it easier for residents with mobility issues to use these facilities. The Facilities Committee needs new members! We are making progress toward improving the buildings and 'hardscape' within our community, but we could do more if we had more members. While construction or facilities management/maintenance experience is nice to have, we encourage you to participate if you have a desire to help us make this a better community. ~ Fred Weck Facilities Committee The Lodge in process of being painted
