6 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | AUGUST 2017 | A Note From Your Activities Director By Louise Ceccarelli August is so hot, dry and brown that there isn't much to like about it… but it makes me think of my grandpa and my dad, both of whom had the name "August," which puts a little smile in my heart. I hope you find something to make you happy in August. There are several events going on to help make the month much more fun, so start exploring the possibilities. Check out all the following information right here in the Herald. Starting Thurs., Aug. 3 — and for the next three Thursdays (through the 24th) we will be having FREE Movie Night under the stars on the plaza, starting at 7:45 with cartoons. Bring your chair and a sweater or blanket (yes, it can get cool out there after dark). The Social Committee will be providing free popcorn and candy for your enjoyment. You can pick up a list at the information counter of what will be showing. Aug. 5 is the Pool Party. This is a much anticipated event every year since it's inception. Don't worry, you don't have to wear a swim suit if you don't want to — you can just wear fun, cool, summer clothing — but expect to get splashed at the very least! Aug. 10 there will be a special "Meet & Greet" with our Congressman Raul Ruiz. There will be a question and answer period, so please submit your questions early. Put written questions in the box at the Information counter in the Lobby or email them to ehikel@msn.com. ALL residents are welcome! Aug. 18 there will be a "FREE Senior Scam Workshop." There is so much false information out there being directed at senior citizens. Come learn how to defend yourself against financial devastation. Don't be the next victim. Aug. 22 will be Music on the Plaza with the Kepi Payne Project. They perform an eclectic variety of music from Jazz, Funk, R&B/ Soul, Blues and Classic Rock. Please note that this event starts at 6 pm (not 5 pm as usual) and is just $5 per person. Now, for something NEW on the horizon… there will be NO car show this year. In place we will have the Fall Marketplace on Oct. 28. This will include arts and crafts, swap meet, clubs and committees info, food, drink, beer and wine, vendors, and live music… all the fun of the car show, just no cars. This will be a great opportunity for all residents — especially new owner residents — to get acquainted with what is going on in our community. If you are interested in having a booth at the Marketplace, pick up an application at the information counter in the lobby, fill it out and return it with your payment to the front desk. There will be booth space on the plaza AND in the Ballroom. Booths will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis. Outside booths will need to provide their own shade/ popup. As you can see, there will be plenty of things to do in August and beyond, so mark your calendars and see you around the Lodge.
