"Hot Town, Summer In The City" are the opening lyrics to The Lovin' Spoonful's 60's classic "Summer In The City." August is the month that sits right in the middle of all of our summer years. Most people take a little vacation in the summer, as they head off to other countries or Hawaii. I have to admit, Hawaii is one of, if not my favorite place to run off and vacation. When it comes to taking a full-time vacation, I merely have to put on my earbuds and play my escape music list off my cell phone. You may do this as well as you become your own private deejay enjoying your own personal songs that take you anywhere in time with the slide of a finger across a phone screen. If you can't sing them from memory but you know the song well enough to perform it in front of an audience, you need to join Barb Miller, Rosie Ingalls and D.J. Blast for "Good Times Karaoke" every month as they alternate between the South Clubhouse and the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Sun Lakes always strives to bring you the best entertainment at all scheduled venues and this Karaoke outfit is one of the best ever. You can judge for yourself and see if you don't agree that "Good Times Karaoke" is in a class all its own. They are friendly, well dressed and professional with a great sound system that will make you sound amazing when you sing your songs. It's high time for you to take your hand-picked tunes and try them out at our next gathering. This August you can join Barb, Rosie and D.J. Blast in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom on Sat., Aug. 12, and in the South Clubhouse on Fri., Aug. 25 — both are 5:30 pm to 9 pm. You should practice your summer songs and join us this month for a good time at our Sun Lakes Karaoke. RSVP ASAP, because the clubhouse has limited seating—and bring your own drinks. We'll have special entertainment and plenty of time to schmooze, kibitz, socialize, welcome back members, and welcome NEW ones. A singalong potluck dinner is planned for Sept. 8, the Friday before our first Monday rehearsal, scheduled for Sept. 11.
