mystery theater (& more) Our business meeting in September brought more information to light about our plans for our 2013 Edition of "That's Entertainment." It's still true that the format will remain a "cabaret" or variety-type show, but the parameters will make this show just as impressive as what we have brought to the community for the past two years. In addition to choosing acts, song dance or comedy, that were the reasons that Broadway shows or movies were considered "Blockbusters" in setting new heights for entertainment, all acts must be "brand new" to our community. No matter how professional the performer may be, if you have seen or heard them perform a particular song, dance or skit before, you will not see it on this show! For this show, all performers must have never performed their chosen material at Sun Lakes in the past! The list of performers is growing, but we will absolutely guarantee that this will be a fast paced show and will, again with absolutely certainty, keep the entire production under our two-hour limit. Make sure that you put the dates of Feb. 28, March 1-3, 2013 on your calendar. You will not want to miss this show! Also, in further planning for 2013, we have decided on producing another comedy as our play production for 2013 and are currently reading some unbelievably funny scripts. Rest assured that when this play comes to the stage in late May/early June you will not be disappointed! If you are new to Sun Lakes one of the fabulous things we're sure that you have discovered about our community are the choices one has in managing an active retirement. We are also hoping that, by now, you have seen one of our productions. If you have a feeling that what we do is appealing and something you'd like to try, we have a spot for you. Experience is not necessary, but we ALL have experience, a lifetime of them in fact. We'd just like you to share yours with us! Join us for our next business meeting and introduce yourself; we'd like to get to know you! That meeting will be Tues., Oct. 2, at 1 pm, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Info., Ginger Burris, 845-9685. barbershop chorus drama club Rehearsals are under way for the fall production, "Night of January 16th," by Ayn Rand. Production dates are the Oct. 25, 26, 27, and 28 of with Sunday the 28th being a matinee performance at 2 pm. As something different this time around the Friday evening performance will be a dinner theatre commencing with the meal at 6 pm. Cocktails and wine will be available from the bar. Attendance at dinner theatre will be limited to the seats available at the tables so if this appeals to you get your tickets early. "Night of January 16th" is a courtroom drama which includes audience members on the stage as the jury for the trial. The ending of the play depends on the jury's decision. The proceeds from this production will be dedicated to the Recovery Fund for Ronan Nelson, a 501c3 charity. Ronan is the 16 year-old grandson of Ron and Kay Nelson and was paralyzed in a rugby accident the day before Easter. If you are new to Sun Lakes and want to find your niche, the Drama Club may be just the place for you. We perform two stage plays a year and in between we put on Reader's Theatre which is a limited run, no memorization production with wine and cheese offered with the ticket. The next Reader's Theatre will be a dramatization of the old radio theatre programs, "The Bickerson's," starring Don Ameche and Frances Langford. These wildly humorous vignettes will have alternating casts chosen from the membership. Ken Brown does the technical direction and the directors are chosen from the club. These presentations take place at the South Clubhouse and therefore are intimate theatre experiences. Info., Rose Hermanson, 769-9810. Have you performed in: Glee Club? Chorus? Church? The shower? Friendships were renewed, tans admired, vacations revisited, new members welcomed, and music packets anxiously previewed. We have a unique bonding spirit - we not only sing together, we have a sincere friendship glued with joyful years of sharing music. While few of us have anything but "shower quality" voices somehow our dedication, love, lots of practice, and the treasured gift of our patient Director Bob Jensen, our concerts have grown in quality.
