COMMITTEE NEWS It's Time to Get R.I.P.P.E.D.: Personnel Profile Four Seasons has had a number of ladies running the exercise program but this time, we have a gentleman who has become quite popular. George Grady teaches Wednesday classes in the Aerobics Room and specializes in the R.I.P.P.E.D. program. R.I.P.P.E.D stands for Resistance, Intervals, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance, and Diet and Nutrition. Plyometrics is a system of exercise in which the muscles are repeatedly stretched and suddenly contracted. A session typically starts with a warm up, followed by a weights (the resistance), followed by short quick heel-and-toe and skating-motion exercises (the intervals) then slower exercises, then really quick ones (the plyometrics). This is followed by a series that stresses the muscles in a complex set of ways that exercises the brain as well as the body (the power). The whole routine builds endurance. Each section works different parts of the body, from head to toe. These workouts can be very intense but George has modified the exercises for senior citizens and he sets it all to music. George got involved in fitness when he was four years old to protect himself from bullies. He earned a first degree black belt in Kempo, a form of karate. He also found that he loved teaching. George has been in martial arts for almost 26 years now. George met Carmen Lopez, the owner of For The Health Of It (formerly Pro-Fit) a couple of years ago when they both worked at L. A. Fitness. She helped George convert his martial arts training into exercise training programs. "I already had the background, I just needed to learn how to set it to music. When Carmen started her business, she asked me to teach at her studio and various places, including Four Seasons. I enjoy it and love keeping people motivated in fitness." He can be contacted at Pstgrady7@gmail.com. George was called to the ministry 12 years ago and was licensed in 2002. He is married and is now a full time pastor in Moreno Valley at the You Are a Success Community Church. ~ Zelyne Rudolph FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2012 17
