24 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2017 | A Tale of a Sunny Glow: Once upon a time on a sunny morning, revelers gathered on a green meadow. All were there to play a game. They brought "sticks" and "white balls." They were joyous as they hit the little ball around the green meadow. Now, there were onlookers who cheered them on and provided support for the revelers. Yes, little rays of sunshine here and there spreading those extra rays to bring joy to their hearts. Unfortunately, this too had to end and when it did, there was raucous laughter as they lifted a libation to their lips and fibbed about their success on the green meadow. Much to the elation of the "little rays of sunshine," all coins collected from the revelers were shared with them. What a day! What a privilege to be part of this "glow" and the party on the green. Thanks Golf Club from the very depths of all Sunshiner hearts. Kindness Recognition: A stranger in need is no longer a stranger when they are looked upon with kindness and given a helping hand. Margie Hobbs (above, pictured center) was the kind stranger who took the time to "unload the grocery cart" for a shopper she did not know, simply out of the kindness of her heart. Karen Brown noticed. For this kind act, Karen nominated Margie Hobbs for the September 2017 Kindness Award. The dictionary defines "kindness" as a noun. The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate; a kind act. We see it all the time and we tuck it away and say, "that was nice" but fail to recognize those who put forth that caring gesture. We encourage you to recognize those individuals in Four Seasons. Team Sunshine's kindness program is as easy as recording someone's special deed on a Kindness Card. These cards are found at the Lodge Front Desk or you can contact LaDean Hatcher 677-7166 or email: ladeepoo3@ yahoo.com) who leads this effort. Celebrations of Life: A celebration of life was held for Robert Joseph Allen (Barbara Hughes' father) on, Aug. 11 in the Lodge Ballroom. The Allen family gathered to celebrate the life of their father. What a loving and caring reminder of a father's life. Team Sunshine was privileged to be a part of this celebration. We learned that Werner Greve passed away. Our condolences to Claudia and her family as well as Four Seasons friends. No memorial was planned for here. We often do not receive information on others who have passed in the community and to those we offer our deepest and heartfelt condolences. Special Team Sunshine Information: We encourage residents to call Margie Culton (491-4058) or Brenda Beers (306-6670) for Team Sunshine information. They will direct you to the individual in Team Sunshine who can help with your concern. Thank you. A good source of Team Sunshine information is the Caring Connection Card which can be obtained at the lodge front desk. Please stop by and pick up your copy. If you know of someone who has had surgery, recovering from an illness, etc., please contact Trish Egan (909) 844-3852. She will contact her team members to send the appropriate card. This information is also passed to a "calling team." They will initiate a call as follow-up. August Program: This program was especially well attended as it "hits home" with our concern for our Veterans. Our presenters were Lighthouse Social Service Center headed by President and CEO, Karyn Young-Lowe. Heroes Warehouse's Director, Mary Kelly-Mohr shared information on furnishing household essentials (at no cost) to our Veterans. A truck was on hand to pick up bedding, linens, blankets and towels; small appliances from toasters to microwaves; pots and pans, dishes and silverware; irons and ironing boards as well as lamps; furniture for small spaces. Thanks to Sunshiners, Linda Adkins and Colleen Ferguson for bringing us this special presentation. Closing Thoughts: "I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." ~ Ettiene De Grellet Team Sunshine
