| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2017 | 25 Blue Thong Society Hemet Chapter of the Blue Thong Society Supports Kin Care Program The Blue Thong Society is an international, philanthropic woman's social group, and the Hemet Chapter, comprised primarily of Four Seasons ladies, supports a variety of community programs. Although the Chapter's primary project is to assist the Community Food Pantry, they have also become very involved in direct support of the Kin Care Program. Kin Care is a non-profit service program which supports grandparents and relatives who have assumed the role of raising relative children throughout Riverside County. Sadly, and for a variety of reasons, many children are being raised by their grandparents or other family relatives. So, Kin Care assists families by providing guardianship assistance, tutoring, counseling and other services. One of the primary needs is the necessity of providing school supplies to the children. This is the fourth year that our Blue Thong Society Chapter has contributed directly to this worthwhile cause by providing backpacks stocked with necessary school supplies for these children. Over the past month, our members have shopped for assorted school supplies, purchased back packs and stocked them with the supplies. Each backpack is filled with essential school supplies such as; pencils, pens, crayons, paper, rulers, notebooks, pencil sharpeners. And, in addition to these items, calculators and padlocks were included for middle and high school age children. These items will help the kids get ready for the new school year. Based on the backpacks' contents, they are then sorted and identified by age groups. Then our members deliver them to the Kin Care facility for distribution to the children. This year, we delivered a total 46 backpacks, which brings the total donations to 224 backpacks over the four years. Kathy Williams, Lead Community Resource Counselor/Programs is the contact in Hemet for the California Family Life Center (CFLC) Kin Care program. Although this organization is not actually located in Hemet, it supports Veterans in need of housing throughout our valley. The Hemet Blue Thong ladies assemble personal hygiene kits and also collect assorted household items which are donated to Lighthouse Social Services for distribution to Veterans.
