FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2017 63 Paddle Tennis Three years ago I was invited to go down to our paddle tennis courts by my neighbor, Mike Flower. He said, "If you want, I have an extra paddle for you to use." So I took him up on it and found after playing just a few games, that I loved it. I mean, I fell in love with the sport. All the players were so friendly and happy to share their knowledge of the sport. That first time playing was such a good time, and even though I'd never played tennis or pickleball or any other sport that had this much running, I found this was a sport that most of us could do. I do come from a musical background being a professional drummer for more than 35 years, but I'd never had to huff and puff this much. At 61, I'm considered one of the young kids, but these 'older' men and women blow me away. They are so good at this that I find myself wishing I had more time to practice and play. So if you're interested in playing paddle tennis, come on down. The players are a great bunch of guys and gals. You'll get a kick out of them as they all are anxious to help any newcomer. They have different personalities and all are happy and willing to help if you're a beginner, like I once was. I found that there is always an extra paddle to use, and I'd like to thank some of the people there that helped me. Michael Rothberg gave me a few pointers, and of course Richard Carrasco for his encouragement with his forever cajoling like, hey Raul "Good shot! Maybe you can get it over the net next time." And Garrett, forever saying, "Keep your eye on the ball," and Alan Chan who said, "Raul you are getting better, but the problem is so is everyone else." What a fun bunch, and I can't wait until I retire so I can play paddle tennis all the time. Rock on. ~ Raul Bautista Fun potluck luncheon at the Summit in early September I moved to Four Seasons about four years ago. I left some great fishing spots down in the Coachella Valley where I lived for more than 60 years. During that time I made a great many fishing friends and fished all over the valley. When I moved to Beaumont I did not know what to expect regarding the new fishing area. I soon found out that there are plenty of places to fish within 30 minutes of the Beaumont area. In the four years that I have been here I have fished in eight additional lakes. I do not like to fish by myself. I like it better when I am with some of my fishing buddies. Now that I am a senior citizen I do not want to take a chance of falling down while fishing with no one around to help me up. After joining the Fishing Club at Four Seasons I have made new fishing buddies and now have five guys that I can count on to go fishing with. To be truthful I really do not like to eat fish. My wife, on the other hand, loves to eat fish. She is always thankful when I can bring home a few fish for her to cook. She is really happy that I can fish for fun and not have to rely on my fishing skills to keep us fed. By the way, my wife loves to go fishing. She likes to go to new places and look at all the new sights and sounds that fishing has to offer. Tight lines to all my fishing friends, and remember to call up an old fishing buddy and find out it he or she has caught any really nice fish lately. ~ Richard Carrasco Fishing Club
