36 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2017 Chile has a long viticultural history for a New World wine region, dating to the 16th century when the Spanish conquistadors brought vitis vinifera vines with them as they colonized the region. Chile is a virtual grape growing paradise. The Andes Mountains to the east, the Pacific to the west, a desert to the north and Antarctica to the south makes the ideal grape growing climate. Chile is the fifth largest exporter of wine and the ninth largest producer. Not just any wine, but some of the best and finest selection of wines have been produced in Chile since the first wine grapes were planted in the country in 1554. Taste d' Vine Wine Club is excited to bring you "Wines of the New World – Featuring Wines of Chile." We invite you to join us at the October meeting of the Taste d' Vine Wine Club on the third Thursday of the month, Oct. 19, 6 pm in the Ballroom. Please bring an appetizer such as bread or crackers and cheese, your own favorite bottle of wine if you wish, and a glass or two for tasting and sharing. Members $5, guests $10. Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "Debra Winger and Tracy Letts play a long-married, dispassionate couple who are both in the midst of serious affairs. But on the brink of calling it quits, a spark between them suddenly reignites, leading them into an impulsive romance." Our second monthly screening, on Sun, Oct. 22 at 6p, is the film Beatriz at Dinner (USA 2017, 1 hr. 22 min., English). Here is a brief description from Amazon.com: "Beatriz (Salma Hayek), an immigrant from a poor town in Mexico, has drawn on her innate kindness to build a career as a spiritual health practitioner in Los Angeles. Doug Strutt (John Lithgow) is a cutthroat, self-satisfied billionaire real estate developer. When these two opposites meet at a dinner party, their worlds collide and neither will ever be the same." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theatre has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. If you have any questions about the Counter Culture Cinema Club or want to recommend a film, please email Micki Rosen at m i c h e l e s r o s e n @ g m a i l . com. ~ Micki Rosen
