FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2017 53 The Curly Cues are getting quite a reputation — for billiards expertise, that is. After one of the CC's has made an exceptional bank shot or difficult safety shot, we often hear: "Yeah, she's a Curly Cue!" You've got that right. The Curly Cues rock. It's amazing to realize that these women have only been playing for a year and a half or so, yet they could pass for at least a lifetime player. They are dedicated to practicing and play often just because it's a fun game, and one that they can challenge their spouses or friends as well. In fact, one of the Curly Cues just mentioned that she's "addicted to this fun game." Yep, we do have fun. (Just check out the above photos for validation.) On Sept. 11, we held our bi-monthly luncheon at Marla's Restaurant, here in Beaumont, hosted by Alex Vanhoose. Thank you Alex. It was so much fun! (Photo of the luncheon will be in the November issue of the Breeze.) After the luncheon, we all returned to the Lodge for our 1 pm play session. At 3 pm that same day, we resumed our monthly workshops, and those that stayed were given pointers on how to stop the ball, use of English, as well as any other instruction needed or answers to questions they had. Oct 23 will be our last in-house tournament for 2017. The ladies will be all geared up with their fancy pink or flowered pool sticks, wearing their Curly Cues shirts, and seeking to be the winners, and the resultant honor of having their names inscribed on the CC plaque, and a well-earned honor it is. We pull peas to determine partnerships, so there are no "loaded" teams. Okay, sometimes even with pea-pulling the teams can be formed with two of the more experienced players. However, the tournament's not over 'til it's over, and sometimes the winners even surprise themselves. We will post photos of the first and second place teams in the November issue of the Breeze. If you have always wanted to learn how to play this fun and challenging game, we will be happy to teach you, and then you can take on the weekly challengers. We always have a really good time, and you would just add to that experience. Come by the Billiards Room any Monday at either 11 am or 1 pm (we have two sessions that are two hours each). We'll welcome you with a smile! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Curly Cues Janet McAdamis lines up her shot with help from the ever-popular bridge or "sissy stick" Jill Anderson encourages her ball to go into the pocket Barbara Morton exhibits a perfect stance as she prepares her shot
