12 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2017 | ANNUAL VETERANS WALK Sat., Nov. 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Please join us for our 6th Annual Veterans Walk to honor all who have served for our country. This walk will be held in Sun Lakes and all the proceeds from this event will be going to the local VFW Troop 233. Last year we raised over $7,000 and our goal this year is to surpass that. It will consist of a two mile walk around Country Club Drive to Riviera, and back up Country Club Drive to the Main Clubhouse. If you don't feel you can do the two miles, there are turn back increments at half a mile, one mile and 1.5 miles so there is a walk for everyone. Registration forms can be picked up at the Recreation Desk. The cost is $20 pp (checks only, made out to SLCC) and includes a goodie bag with an event T-shirt, continental breakfast after the walk and an opportunity to listen to a couple of decorated veterans. For any resident unable to walk, you can still participate by entering your golf cart into the event. We ask that the carts be decorated with a U.S. Flag, a Service Flag, or a Wounded Warrior Flag to support the event. Please note, golf cart use is for disabled residents ONLY. If you know anyone who would like to be a sponsor for this event, please have them contact Jason at (951) 769-6651. Continental breakfast is for participants only. Please carpool or use your golf cart to come up to the starting line. COMMUNITY SHREDDING Fri., Nov. 10, 9 am-12 pm, Main Clubhouse parking lot. Do you have boxes of paper just lying around taking up space? If so, we have a solution for you. On Nov. 10 there will be a truck shredding papers on site at the Main Clubhouse for only $4 a box (standard bankers box please). This is a great way to get rid of those confidential papers that you no longer need without having to drive to a place and pay a large fee. No sign-ups are required. Just show up between 9 am and 12 pm with your boxes. For more information please contact the Recreation desk at 845-2191. TRAVEL PRESENTATION FOR TUCSON Please join us for another great presentation sponsored by the Recreation Department. Steve Kneass delivered such a great presentation promoting the Monterey excursion for September, he was asked to return and give a presentation for our new trip, and this time we are heading Southwest to Tucson, Arizona. The presentation will begin Nov. 28 at 10:30 am in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. There will be a great narrative slide show explaining the trip. (Sign-ups for this trip begin Dec. 1). Mark both dates on your calendar to ensure that you don't miss out. Coffee and cookies will be served at intermission.
