| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2017 | 7 Treasurer's Report By John Clark Note: I apologize for the brevity of the report but, at the time of writing, I had just returned from my annual winery activities in northern California (fortunately located in an area outside of the devastation we have all seen on TV). BOTTOM LINE: September expenses exceeded income by $55,014. This is $33,583 more than that which had been anticipated in the plan. As a result, the surplus, that was being carried forward, has been reduced to a current total of $79,260 with three months left in the year. Interestingly, if you set the plan aside for a moment and just look at actual income and actual expense, you will note that, for the nine months, the Association expenses exceeded income by only $5,680. NON-OPERATIONS: The pace of home resales dropped in September with 13 recorded. The nine months have now recorded a total of 129, whereas, the plan, had anticipated 167 for the same period. That is a shortfall in income of approximately $36,000. Interest income continues ahead of plan, with a positive variance to the plan of $14,835, almost 20 percent better. REVENUE: Golf continues to track with the plan helped by a continuing high level of daily green fees for guests. The Food and Beverage operation was $12,467 (or 7.8 percent) ahead in September coming from both the restaurant and lounge functions. EXPENSE: Electricity for the common area was $17,597 (58 percent) over plan for the month. This is being reviewed as a possible accrual error and, if so, will be corrected next month. The expense is on plan for the nine months. Property protection expense was over plan by $16,791 for the month. Primary reason was installation of camera monitoring equipment at the north clubhouse pool. This is part of a Board effort which is reviewing the need for monitoring cameras throughout the complex. FUNDS: No significant change in September. FINALLY: A Thanksgiving quotation from Oprah Winfrey: "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough." Comments: jdclark@dc.rr.com.
