18 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2017 LODGE/RCN PARKING SURVEY COMING UP Scenario 1: Large Event Parking Have you ever planned to attend a large event at the Lodge, arrived 10 minutes early and can't find a legal parking space? Frustration mounts as neighbors' vehicles begin to line up behind you; all sharing a common thought, "But, I left early so I could find parking." Scenario 2: Handicapped Spaces You're looking forward to participating in the new class because your doctor recommends it for extending your range of motion. Your vehicle pulls into the lot and all of the handicapped parking is taken! Demoralized, you consider how much energy you'll have for class participation after walking from the parking lot. "Our community is growing!" is a frequent observation. You've seen the construction and visited with new neighbors next door or down the street. Planning for the next big event or new class, you devise a perfect solution to the parking dilemma: you'll leave a half hour before the performance/class begins. Your neighbors and friends are like-minded, however, and do exactly the same! Frustration morphs into consternation as you briefly consider illegal parking on Four Seasons Circle. Worse yet, you decide that you cannot attend the class due to lack of handicapped parking. But wait! There's an outlet for your concerns about Lodge/RCN parking: a parking solution survey. The HOA is proactively looking to address this symptom of our growth and will soon ask residents for your opinions, suggestions, and possible solutions. The parking situation survey will help us evaluate the situation and develop a plan that addresses safety and access concerns. Planning now for the future will ensure that when the community is built out we will have parking and access already in place to best serve all our residents. In preparation for the survey: Consider the following regarding the two Lodge parking lots: • There are 240 "open" parking spaces. • Eight "reserved" parking spaces. • 14 spaces designated "handicapped." • Zero motorcycle spaces. • Three "pedestrian" spots. Think about this: • Does size matter? Should parking spaces be one size fits all? Does a golf cart or motorcycle require the same parking space size as a SUV or truck? • How many parking spaces of all designations could be constructed if the current parking lot was reconfigured? • What if a shuttle service was provided for special events? • Is it possible to project or calculate how many handicapped spaces will be required in the future? Finally, participate in the Lodge Parking Logistics and Space Allocation Study. Participating in the upcoming survey ensures that you are part of the solution! Watch the Daily Report for the survey availability and be prepared to review the educational materials that will accompany it. Once the survey is released, website users also will be able to access it at www.fourseasonsbeaumont.org on the Surveys page (under Board & Committees). ~ Karla Noonan Ad Hoc Parking Committee
