52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2017 Billiards for Fun Yes, the operative word for the Billiards for Fun Group is FUN! However, this group is also focused, serious, intent and competitive, as evidenced in the photos below. Of course, there's laughter and encouragement added to the mix. Or, as an alternative, you could come by the Billiards Room any Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm or 1 to 3 pm and watch (we have two sessions). On Nov. 14 we held our last quarterly tournament of 2017. You'll have to wait with bated breath, however, for the results in the January issue of the Breeze. (Although, to be honest, any of the members of this raucous group would spill the beans prior to January if you asked them.) Yes, we have a few "table sweepers" (those players that are so good they break the balls and run the table, leaving the other three players standing in shock and awe at their astounding prowess). If you want to know who they are, ask anyone in the club and they'll also divulge names (albeit hesitantly). And, yes, we have those that can sink the 8-ball on the break, and similarly leave the other players speechless and/or exuberantly congratulatory. So, Breeze reader, don't you want to be part of a group with these amazing players? Oh, don't be intimidated. Did I mention we have almost-beginners in the group as well? We are a diverse billiards club and would encourage you to check us out. Don't be afraid. Really. Hope to see you soon! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine The 8 Ball in-house tournament this month brought out a full house of 14 players, so many we had to use two nights to finish the match. The first of the final set had Larry Rice undefeated squeaking by Ray Windhorn to stand by to begin game one. Ray dropped down in bracket to meet Dewey Allen who had been defeated once by Larry in regular play. When we picked up play on the second day, Larry Rice was pitted against Dewey Allen who suffered one loss which necessitated he beat Larry twice. Dewey broke the balls and sunk quite a few but gave up the ball to Larry. Larry proceeded to clear the table and became monthly champion of 8 Ball once again. Brian Anderson was on fire during 9 Ball and pounded through the field of nine opponents entering the finals to face Larry Rice. Back and forth it went between the two until Brian got his shot on the 9 ball and sunk it for the win. Exciting play this month as Larry Rice and Brian Anderson excel as champions for the month, congratulations to both players.
