62 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2017 Ping Pong Fun, Fitness, Friendship, and a Fountain of Youth! Now that the Ping Pong Club has been playing at various hours throughout the day, we have discovered that the new facility provides excessive glare through the windows, which impacts play for many players. Currently only very thin, translucent shades cover the east facing windows, and sheer drapes somewhat cover the double glass doors on the opposite side of the room. Our club decided to put together a proposal to our Facilities Committee to recommend window tinting. Not only will this provide a safer environment for our senior eyes, but it should help with energy savings as well. Speaking of safety, I would like to remind players that ping pong can be a fast-moving, highly competitive sport, and injuries can, and have occurred. Please keep safety in mind before deciding to dive for that slam, or step over your doubles partner to get to the other side of the table. Always be aware of other players around you, as well as the green dividers intended to keep balls in the court. Be sure to wear appropriate athletic shoes with good stability, and a grippy flat sole, without hiking or trail lugs that could grab the floor and send you flying. Our recycling program continues to be successful - so successful that we are going to host a ping pong tournament and pizza party on Dec. 9. Starting at 1:30 pm in The Courts facility, we will have a club meeting. We will be recruiting for new committee members as three of our original members will be stepping down. If you are interested in promoting our club, be sure to speak up. We will start the tournament at 2 pm. We will play mixed doubles, double elimination, and award 1st place prizes. Pizza is planned for 5 pm. Keep those CA CRV recyclables coming in each first Wednesday of the month. The New York Times posted an article March 7, 2017 titled, "Ping Pong as the Fountain of Youth." Lots of positive information describing why YOU should be playing. "Ping pong is one of the fastest racket sports, requiring muscular and cardiorespiratory endurance. Players need nimble footwork and upper body flexibility to return balls that can fly over 60 miles per hour." "Ping pong's unique visual and spatial demands, strategy requirements and vigor may even offer benefits for the brain." See you at the tables! ~ Sandra Butler- Roberts Fishing Club My frying pan is begging me to put fresh trout in it. December is the best time of the year to catch trout. My favorite place to go trout fishing is Yucaipa Regional Park. It is a 20 minute drive from our house and I usually catch some nice trout for dinner. Diamond Valley is a great spot to catch just about any kind of fish you want to go after. You can rent a nice boat on Wednesday and you get a senior discount. If you like ocean fishing the long range boats are the best bet. It gets a little expensive to go on one of these; however, you are almost always going to catch fish to put in the freezer. The weather man says we are not going to have a wet winter this year. That is ok because last year we got plenty of rain to fill up all our fishing spots. I don't know about you, but I hate to fish in the rain. Almost all of the articles I have written about fishing is in general. The next article I write I will get very specific about fishing equipment, bait, and where to meet here at Four Seasons to go on fishing trips to our local lakes. I believe that the more people that go fishing, the more fun you will have. I am thinking about putting up a poster at the Lodge to let all the fishermen and fisherwomen know the date and time we will be leaving for a local fishing trip. Almost all of my fishing buddies have cars or trucks that we can use to get us to the fishing grounds. Be looking for the poster and get ready to have a real fun time fishing. Tight lines to all my fishing friends and remember: Live to fish and not fish to live. Merry Christmas to all and a very Happy New Year! ~ Richard Carrasco Rony Tordesillas won a 3rd Place Bronze medal at this year's Oldlympics event in Hemet. Congratulations Rony!
