FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2017 63 Paddle Tennis As we say goodbye to the summer, I hope everybody had a great one. I'm looking forward to cooler weather — it's perfect for Paddle Tennis. When the Paddle Tennis Club started, I wasn't really interested in the sport because I was busy playing regular racquet tennis, and, as I heard more about it, I got curious and finally tried it. To my surprise, I had so much fun and found that I loved it! The bug bit me and I couldn't stay away from it. Always looking forward to playing time and to see my new group of friends. We have both male and female players (more males) and it's always fun when the women beat the guys (sorry, guys)! Paddle Tennis is not all about power, it's more a game of finesse so it is relatively equal for both sexes. Paddle Tennis is a fun sport and very easy to learn. It's a small scale form of tennis. The rules and scoring are similar to tennis except that the server is allowed to serve only one serve. If it's a fault, the server loses the point. The court is smaller, the net is lower, and no double lines. The ball is depressurized, meaning it doesn't bounce as high as the regular tennis ball, and is played with a solid paddle. It's a great sport for players over 55 years of age as it improves eye-hand coordination and reflexes. On top of that, we have a wonderful steering committee that keep us busy with all the activities and social functions. I encourage everyone to join, especially new homeowners and beginners. I guarantee, you will enjoy it, so come on down and play! The Fall Open Classic Singles Tournament (Oct. 28 and 29) featured over 100 players in the four division contests. Stefan played six matches (73 games), reached the finals and was the winner (over 23 players) in the B division. Stefan, owner of Just Custom Painting, has played tennis most of his life and became an active paddle tennis player about 20 years ago. In 2001, he entered the US Open Singles Tournament and placed third in the A division. He will be playing again on Dec. 2 in the Invitational Men's Singles Tournament, held in Venice Beach, this time competing in the A Division.
