4 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | DECEMBER 2017 The Holiday Home Tour will be Saturday, December 2 from 1 to 3:30 pm. Start the season by touring various Solera homes decorated for the holidays. If you have questions call Jeanette White (951) 925-5610 or (951) 236-6335. Holiday Home Tour Monday, December 18, 12:45-8 pm, $43 per person. During the holidays, the Historic Mission Inn Hotel & Spa is illuminated by five million twinkling lights, 200 animated figurines and holiday characters, and the world's largest man-made mistletoe! It's sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Join us on a trip up to Riverside. Once we arrive, our outing begins with a docent led walking tour of the famous hotel. We will divide into groups of 15 and starting at 1:45 pm, each group will depart within 15 minutes of each other. Each tour lasts about 75 minutes after which you will have time to explore the shops and outdoor Christmas markets in the area and have dinner on your own. Make your way back to the Mission just after dusk to see all the holiday lights and possibly even purchase a horse-drawn carriage ride to enjoy a different view of the beautiful lights display. Mission Inn Hotel & Spa "Festival of Lights" By Alan Siegel, Resident On November 11, we celebrated and honored our veterans at a luncheon ceremony in the Lodge Ballroom. After recognizing all branches of military service and all our veteran residents, Quilts of Valor were given to resident veterans who had not previously received one. This year, the Quilting Club at SDV presented Quilts of Valor to 14 residents. Those who make these quilts are known as Quilting Angels, and when a Quilting Angel gifts one of her quilts, she is said to have earned her "wings." Those who earned their wings and many who've earned many sets of wings are: Elsie Bratcher, Patti McMinn, Charlene Bowman, Ann Lontz, Ginny Gass, Marty Webb, Suzanne Wade, Libby Linton, Jo Anne Krebs, Mary LeKivetz, Elaine Giometti, Lillian & Steve Rudnick, and Bobbie Foote. The Veteran recipients this year were: Gary Ulrich, Thomas Bailey, Bob Amorsen, Daniel Mendez, Dean Gordon, Steve Day, Tom Teer, Herminio Garcia, John Rossi, Paul Epstein, Larry Bendix, David Wellfare, Richard Dowis, and Ernie Davis.
