yiddish culture club On Wed., Nov. 14, we proudly present a World War II story that even the History Channel has never told! During WWII, the U.S. formed an elite intelligence unit comprised of mostly German Jewish academics at Camp Ritchie, Maryland. Tasked with devising ways to break the morale of the SS, these men are often credited with bringing an early end to the war. The cast includes many of the men who were the real Ritchie Boys. The film was written and directed by Christian Bauer and took seven years to produce. "In never seen archival footage, whose quality and color are dazzling, the film tells of the adventures and success, the courage and heroism of an unlikely band of individuals brought together by their will to fight Hitler and his Nazis," said Lucille de Saint-Andre, Echo Germanica, Toronto. "The Ritchie Boys is a fascinating documentary with high entertainment quotient thanks to the fact that the film's surviving subjects prove to be some of the most articulate, not to mention wittiest octogenarians around, Hollywood Reporter. " wrote Michael Rechtshaffen in the Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Media Psychologist, said, "This is a tremendous document. The Ritchie Boys fought for what they believed in with great commitment and enthusiasm. An important lesson for today, tomorrow and future generations." Sheldon Kirshner of the Canadian Jewish News, Toronto, states "Their little known efforts, which have largely gone unsung, may well have shortened World War II and saved innumerable lives on both sides." Although WW II is long over, we are of that generation and most of us remember. We hope you will all join us to view this documentary and maybe even tell some of your own tales.
