new excursions & fu Sign-ups begin for the Recreation Department excursions on Thurs., Nov. 1, at 8 am, in the Rec. Dept. offi ces. PLEASE NOTE! Due to some of the excursion refund policies, and to keep cancellations down to a minimum, we ask those who wish to sign up for an excursion to please check your calendar for prior engagements prior to signing up for excursions. REFUND POLICY: 1. Cancellations made 30 days prior to the departure date of an excursion or special event will qualify for a full refund. 2. Cancellations made after the 30 day refund deadline are not refundable. However, if an excursion or event has sold out and there is a wait list, the Recreation Department may issue a refund if the ticket can be resold from the wait list. Thank you SAN BERNARDINO SYMPHONY: "TREASURE OF THE AMERICAS" Sun., Jan. 13, 2 – 5:30pm, $26 pp. Aaron Copland was an American composer, composition teacher, writer, and later in his career a conductor of his own and other American music. He was instrumental in forging a distinctly American Style of composition and is often referred to as "the Dean of American Composers." He is best known to the public for the works he wrote in the 1930s and 1940s in a deliberately more assessable style than his earlier pieces, including the ballets Appalachian Spring, Billy the Kid, Rodeo and his Fanfare for the Common Man. The open, slowly changing harmonies of many of his works are archetypical of what many people consider to be the "Sound of American Music" evoking the vast American landscape and pioneer spirit. Join us today for a matinee of the most beautiful music you will ever hear! CALIFORNIA SCIENCE CENTER Tues., Jan 15, 9 am - 5 pm, $23 pp. The Endeavour will be on display in the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Center, in the Endeavor Display Pavilion. Along with the orbiter, the pavilion will feature video experiences and signifi cant artifacts such as the Spacelab fl own in Endeavour's payload bay on shuttle mission STS-118. Guests will begin their experience by visiting Endeavor: The California Story, a companion exhibit featuring images and artifacts that relate the shuttle program to California, where the orbiters were built. The California Story gallery will also feature components that fl ew into space with Endeavor, such as Endeavor's potty, galley, and the tires from STS-134, Endeavor's fi nal mission, for guests to see up close. There is also a 3D movie for your enjoyment, with a minimal fee. For lunch time there are several places to enjoy a meal (on your own) or a light snack during your visit. McDonald's, a familiar fast food option, and the Rose Garden Café, a cafeteria style eatery, are both on the fi rst fl oor of the Science Center. The Rose Garden Café also features Taco Bell Express and a Starbucks coffee bar. Restaurants feature indoor and outdoor patio seating. excursion reminder S/O = Sold Out (wait list avail.)
