42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2018 A Man Called Ove: A novel by bestselling author, Fredrik Backman, "took the world by storm" when it was first released in 2015. A charming debut novel, this book is a light-hearted yet moving story about a grumpy, lovable curmudgeon named Ove. He has staunch principles and often a short fuse, so when a chatty young couple with two children move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove's mailbox, well, it's just he beginning of a comical and heartwarming tale. Of special note, this Backman book is soon to be a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks. Please join us on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 9:30 am in the Lodge Conference Room for this lively, fun discussion. All are welcome, whether you've read the book or not. If reading more in 2018 is on your list, please come and check us out. The March selection is Still Life by Louise Penny. For more information about the Book Club, please contact Doreen Sanders at (951) 769- 1913. ~ Kathy Roach. Book Club Kiwanis Club of Beaumont The Kiwanis Annual Breakfast will be held on Feb. 10 at the Beaumont Civic Center. The funds from this breakfast will go towards Beaumont High School scholarships and youth programs. Tickets for the breakfast can be purchased from any Kiwanis member or at the door that morning. The breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice, and coffee (all you can eat) for the low price of $6. If businesses wish to advertise and have their business card on the place mat at the breakfast, a place mat ad can be purchased for $35. With that purchase you also get six breakfast tickets free. Come out and join us that morning and support the Beaumont Kiwanis Club. We are also working on our 13th Annual Cherry Fest Car & Motorcycle Show which will be held May 26 at Stewart Park in Beaumont. Entry forms are at www.beaumontcherryfestival.org. The Cherry Fest Car & Motorcycle Show is one of our biggest fundraisers and last year we had 175 cars on display and several hundred people came out to view the cars. We are looking for new members. The more members we have the more service we can do to help the children of the world and the community of Beaumont. The Beaumont Kiwanis Club meets in the Lodge Conference Room every Thursday except for the first Thursday of the month. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm. Many of the members come early, order at the Bistro, and eat prior to the meeting. You do not need to be a resident of Four Seasons to be a Kiwanis member. For further information, call Buzz Dopf at (909) 208-0880. Hope you have a great New Year! ~ Buzz Dopf The Writer's Club will be hosting a Writer's Seminar on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 6:30 pm in the Lodge. Desserts will be served because the creative cognitive process is enhanced with sweets and sugar! Coffee and tea will also be served. The purpose of the seminar is threefold: 1. Encourage new members to join the Writer's Club. 2. Meet and hear from the current members about their experiences. 3. Understand the publication process. This will be an interactive and dynamic seminar designed to answer your questions about writing. Whether you're a serious or casual writer or just plain curious, come out and join us! The Writer's Club meets regularly on the second Tuesday of every month. Join us on Feb. 13 at 1:30 pm in the Lodge. Meeting location will be designated at the time. Check with the Reception Desk for location. We will be finalizing the details for the Writer's Seminar. ~ Karla Noonan Writer's Club
