48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2018 Billiards for Fun We have been busy participating in tournaments here at Four Seasons. On Feb. 12, the Curly Cues (CC) invited the Billiards for Fun Group (BFFG) for their semi-annual challenge: The "guys" of the BFFG against the "girls" of the Curly Cues. It was quite a challenge, since the BFFG had a "last pocket" handicap. (Just to give them more of a challenge, of course. Not to give the CCs any advantage. Right?) Sigh! In spite of the handicap, the BFFG guys prevailed as winners represented by David Thomason and Johnny Ramirez (see the Curly Cues article on the next page for more information). Congrats to all our amazing players! You all played your hearts out and were really nice to the CC ladies as well. On Feb. 20, the BFFG held its quarterly in-house tournament. The first session winners, Bob Becker and Mike Fisher, returned at 2 pm to play the best two out of three against the afternoon winners, Johnny Ramirez and Bob Semler. Bob and Mike came in first place, followed closely by Johnny and Bob. It was a really fun tournament and all the players enjoyed the competition. Hey all you billiard players out there who want to join the BFFG in the hopes of challenging our newest heroes — please come by the Billiards Room in the Lodge any Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm or 1 to 3 pm (we have two sessions) and play at least three times in the next three months to qualify for our next in-house tournament scheduled for May 22. We need you! And, we also have an informal practice session every Saturday open to the community in the same time slots. Bring your pool stick (or use one of ours) and come join the fun! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Eight players were present to vie for the monthly 8-Ball In-House tournament; a few of our other members were sick and a few were travelling but we resolved to have a good time anyway. Thanh Harrah was victorious in three rounds of play but fell to her husband Roland Harrah. From the loser's column she defeated Brian Anderson to jump back into the finals against me, undefeated in five rounds. It was a hard fought win but I succeeded in winning game one and so Roland Harrah took the honors for the monthly 8-Ball Champion. Nine Ball saw Ray Windhorn emerge undefeated in six rounds. Meanwhile I became his opponent in the finals after one loss to Gary Christie who sunk the 9 Ball on the break (good job Gary). I went on to win five straight games to meet Ray in the finals. Alas, Ray was victorious and secured the monthly 9 Ball Championship. Congratulations, Ray! We have a great team and wonderful times playing the games we love so for information regarding the 8-Ball Club contact any club officer: Captain: Del Lyles, Sr., (951) 845-5114; Co-Captain: Roland Harrah, (951) 267-3793, rolandthanh@msn.com; Thanh Harrah, Secretary/Treasurer, (951) 267-3793, rolandthanh@ msn.com. ~ Roland Harrah The 8-Ball Club Top left: Thanh Harrah shoots Top right: Roland Harrah and Ray Windhorn Left: Thanh and Roland Harrah Bob Becker and Mike Fisher won first place in the BFFG tournament Johnny Ramirez and Bob Semler take second place
