26 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2018 | TGIF You won't want to miss the May TGIF on May 4 at 5pm. The fabulous "Shades of Sound" will be here to entertain us. Gary and George are the ultimate professionals. They started playing in 1964 when they were just 12 and 13. With a few band changes over the years, they have played in Four Seasons at many of our activities and always enjoyed by all. Bring a dish to share with 8 to 10 people, your own utensils and a beverage of choice. We will provide hot water, instant coffee, tea and ice. There will be a beer and wine raffle. Two tickets for $1. After dinner, stay and enjoy the music and dance with the nostaglic rock band Shades of Sound. Karaoke Hi everybody and welcome to the Karaoke Corner. I am sitting here, the last few days of March working on the karaoke announcement to send to Louise for the May Herald, and I've discovered I have absolutely nothing funny to say. There have been no tickle your funny bone kind of moments in March, unless you think that allergies are funny, and if you do, April was hilarious. I think that this may be a good time to put the spotlight on some of our singers. This month that honor goes to, hmmm… eenie meenie mynie, wait, drum roll please… Margie Culton. I'm sure most of you have seen Margie here and there around Four Seasonsville. I think she may be in charge of the Sunshine Group, oh, and she usually puts on the New Year's Eve dance and, well, I don't have enough time or space to list everything she does, and besides that, nobody really knows — well, maybe her sister Patti knows. I'm really surprised that she has time for karaoke, but she does. Margie started her singing career in the lovely state of Oklahoma when she was only three years old. The very first song that she learned and developed her vocal style on was Happy Birthday to You, which she sang at all of her little friends birthday parties. From there she further honed her chops on her families long drive moving to Hemet, singing along with AM radio giants of the 60s, and then finally, singing in the girls showers at Hemet High School where she developed a huge cast of groupies. This led her to her boyfriend Greg, who enjoyed her song stylings so much that he married her. Margie sings mostly ballads and has developed quite a list of enjoyable songs that everyone loves. Perhaps the song that brings down the house and brings tears to everyone's eyes, including mine, is that timeless standard, I'm Not Lisa, and in fact it's so sad that I've requested a moratorium on that song and actually will not allow anyone named Lisa to come to Karaoke because of it. So come to karaoke on the third Sunday, May 20 at 2 pm and enjoy Margie and the rest of our terrific singers… unless your name is Lisa. Well, maybe that's a little harsh. Okay, new rule, you can come if your name is Lisa, but in all fairness you will not be allowed to sing that other classic I'm Not Margie. NOTE: As Grand Poobah of karaoke, I of course can make new rules when ever I deem them necessary or if it benefits me. See y'all at karaoke. ~ Bill Happy May Ladies. This month we celebrate Mother's Day and Memorial Day, two very deserving holidays. Our April event Brunch/Movie had a great turnout. The food was delicious and there were lots of very nice door prizes and gifts for our April birthday gals. Our May outing will be a visit to Fallbrook Botanical Gardens and lunch. If you are interested, please contact Monica Scholl at (714) 588-2551 or moscholl1@gmail.com We have a few new lovely members. We would love to have more, so please come and meet our awesome group of ladies and see what fun events are planned for the coming months. Our regular meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month, in the Lodge Ballroom at 2 pm. Due to Memorial Day, we will not have a May meeting. Our thought for May: To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world. ~ Brandi Snyder For additional information please contact Chairman, Pat Hall at (951) 599-4687 or pjhall@prodigy.net.
