FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2018 45 African-American Cultural Club Presents: BACKPACK PROJECT FOR CHILDHELP® The AACC and Four Seasons are sponsoring a Backpack Campaign on July 1 through July 15. Our goal is to provide new backpacks filled with school supplies to the children living in the cottages at Childhelp® in Beaumont. Situated across 121 acres of beautiful scenery just one mile west of Four Seasons- the Childhelp® Merv Griffin Village has been dedicated to the 24-hour-a-day treatment of abused, neglected, and at-risk children of California since 1978. The Village houses 84 children ranging in age from 6 to 14 years old. Last year the AACC sponsored a Luggage Drive in which the generous residents of Four Seasons donated over 70 pieces of luggage. This year the AACC wants to provide much needed resources to these children again. There are many ways our community can ensure the local foster children have the tools they need to succeed in the new school year and the AACC feels that new backpacks is a great choice. We need to raise at least $4,000 in order to help these children. Once the funds are reviewed, the AACC backpack committee will purchase the backpacks and school supplies needed. We encourage everyone to contribute to this worthwhile cause. A donor box will be placed at the front desk next to its display in the Lodge. We are accepting cash or checks made payable to the AACC. All collected monies will benefit the children of Childhelp®. We will also be holding a backpack stuffing party after the campaign and are looking for volunteers to help fill the backpacks. If you feel inspired to assist us, please contact Jane Gentry around July 15 at (951) 524-0130. Upcoming event: Sept. 22 - Jazz Under the Stars is a free event that will be held at the Amphitheater. If you attended last year's event, then you know you will have a marvelous time! AACC Meetings: You're invited to join us and become a part of a growing group that is striving to make a difference in our community. Our next meeting will be on July 9 in the Lodge Card Room at 6 pm. For more information please contact Joyce Allen at (951) 769-4354 or Roxie Elliott at (951) 769-2517. ~ Regina Thomas African American Cultural Club The Four Seasons Rainbow Group is an informal opportunity for our LGBT neighbors and any other residents who are interested in meeting with us, to keep up to date, meet new members and to have a relaxing dinner together. We meet every month on the fourth Thursday - our next meeting will be on Thursday, July 26 at 6 pm. We gather at the atrium in the Lodge, order any Smitty's food items that we want and then move to the Lodge Card Room. Feel free to bring your own adult beverage, if you desire, and appropriate glassware. Everyone is welcome. Any questions can be directed to Dale at (951) 797-0364 or Barbara at bamerton@alumni.ucla.edu. ~ Dale Beckes Rainbow Group Please help the Backpack Project for Childhelp®
