| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | July 2018 | 13 Facilities Committee We look at items that need immediate attention, such as fence and gate repairs and sidewalk cracking, as well as long term needs. Some of the longer term projects include replacement of some of the wooden shade structures in the Sports Court area with an Alumawood product (like that installed in the corner of the pool area), continued slurry sealing and repair of our streets on a rotating plan, and replacement of the Ballroom flooring – both carpet and wood. Examples of longer term items which we have done in the past few years include the new storage building, resurfacing the pool, painting the Lodge and spa building stucco, repair and replacement of our Lodge roofs and installation of recycled water irrigation in the common areas. We want to maintain and improve our unique community, Four Seasons of Hemet. Please continue to provide your suggestions and assistance to the Facilities Committee. Landscape Committee Temperatures have started to warm up and will continue through September. With the need to increase the irrigation, our aim should be to irrigate to achieve the optimum benefit. Common sense tells us we shouldn't wait until the soil is bone-dry and cracked to water. As we all know the heat dries plants out much faster and if you have rock hardscape you experience even a higher heat level with the retention of that heat lasting well in to the nighttime hours. Irrigate daily but when doing so, water in the evening or early morning hours when it is cooler and afternoon winds have subsided. Irrigating during the heat of the day requires more water as evaporation takes place very quickly and does not allow for the water to penetrate the roots of the plants. Using several inches of mulch around plants and young trees helps to insulate the soil and keep roots from getting too hot. Mulch also helps to cut down surface evaporation of moisture from the soil. Fertilizer should be held back during the extreme heat months and resume a regular fertilizer routine once cooler temperatures set in, usually in September. You have noticed gopher activity is on the rise throughout our entire community. The golf course management is attempting to be more aggressive in going after those critters on the course but we all know it is a very difficult battle. Artistic is also actively servicing our common areas by setting many traps and applying the use of a repellent gas.
