| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2018 | 45 Happy Cookers Some of our best summer-time memories are when we gather with friends in our backyards, enjoying the smells of food on the grill, cool drinks, laughter, and potluck side dishes. It is always a blast when our friends bring something we have never tried before and their dish is a wonderful medley of tastes. Happy Cookers will be celebrating summer with a barbecue at 11 am on Fri. July 27 at the South Clubhouse. Club volunteers will prepare delectable dishes. Maybe you have a family favorite ice box cake, a Smokey-Grilled Chicken recipe that your friends always ask you to bring ,or even a well-loved corn and bean salad. Bring your traditions, everything will be a surprise. Happy Cookers began their summer of food tastings on Fri., June 22 at the South Clubhouse with everything berries. Tasty treats such as shortcake and berry pavlova were presented by club volunteers. The fourth Friday of the month proved to be another success of one of the largest club memberships in Sun Lakes. If that wasn't enough, Happy Cookers didn't let anyone down with their competitive entry in the Sun Lakes Charity Week Chili Cook-Off. Their activities didn't stop there. The club also presented scholarship money to culinary students enrolled in local schools. These students plan to enter a career in the food industry. Every penny donated by the Happy Cookers came from the generosity of its club members. The assistance is always appreciated by the scholarship recipients. Don't forget to check out the Sun Lakes golf cart float in the Fourth of July parade. This is an active month for Happy Cookers.
