56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2019 Tennis Club March was a great month to see some great tennis; it just wasn't at The Courts. It was in Indian Wells where the best men and women tennis players in the world played in the BNP Paribas Tennis Tournament. Many club members ventured out to the beautiful Tennis Garden in the desert, particularly on the free days (we're retired on fixed incomes, so free is the right price). I did not attend this year, as last year I tended to make line calls from the stands. Even though I was right on the calls, the officials prefer that on-the-court lines persons and Hawk-Eye not get shown up by a bespectacled old man in the audience. So I watched on TV and made the line calls from the comfort of my Lazy-Boy recliner. Nobody cared. Free lessons and practice are held at 10 am on Saturdays that are not play days or other planned club events. Play days are open to all residents of Four Seasons Beaumont on the last Saturday of the month starting at 9 am. Sometimes there are donuts or muffins, but always there's some fun tennis and a nice mix of experience and abilities. In February, with a break in the rainy weather we had a great turn out, and all four courts were in use throughout the morning. Maybe April will be just as good, so come on out. ~ Steven Hovey, sahovey47@ hotmail.com Mother Nature forced cancellation of our last off road run, so our newest vehicle will be featured in this issue. Guest member Ken Swanson recently purchased a new 2019 Wrangler JL, state-of-the-art 2.0 twin turbo Rubicon. It's a beautiful metallic charcoal grey, is fast as a street rod on the road, and can climb any rock or canyon from Ocotillo to Moab. Ken is looking forward to showing it off as soon as the weather allows, hopefully this month. Come and join us if you own a 4x4 or would like to ride along with one of our members. We meet the second Tuesday of each month in the craft room at 7 pm to plan the upcoming run on the third Thursday. Any questions can be answered by Rick Brower at (951) 255-7119 or Don Fant at (951) 381-1972. ~ Don Fant 4x4 Seasons Ready for those tax returns for 2018? How about being ready for Paddle Tennis since the March rain kept us away almost all month long. I know many people are ready. I hear there is going to be a tournament for the group in April and a potluck after — won't that be fun? Since the play has been light with the much needed rain, there's not much to report… only that we're ready and excited to be back on the courts. Come join us — we enjoy new players and it's fun to watch them learn the game and get better little by little. And to the gals: let's get out there and show everyone we can be at the top of the game. I've been away due to health issues, but now I'm ready and able to come back full force. So see you out on The Lodge courts. Play dates and times listed here in the Breeze. For those players who work, regular posted play times don't fit in their time schedule, so some would be interested in playing during off scheduled times, you can call Ali at (909) 210-9359 to arrange games. As I used to say; good play, good times and good exercise. ~ Diana Ali, rowdinky@aol.com Paddle Tennis Ken Swanson and his JL Rubicon No play… Enjoying the view while driving down to The Lodge to play Paddle Tennis Between matches at the BNP Paribas Tournament
