22 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2019 | Village Squares Our first dinner dance of the year, in honor of St Patrick's Day, was held on March 6. The "Wearing of the Green" included a traditional Irish dinner before our club dance. Joining us for the dinner was Paul Steinberg. Paul is a long time member of our club who is turning 100 this year on Sept. 12. One of OHCC's original founders, he square danced with us until two years ago and still enjoys joining the club for dinners and special events like his birthday. Always ready with compliments for the ladies, and wonderful stories, Paul is a welcome addition. You can see him every day walking his dog, Newt, to our dog park. Our students are learning more and more of the mainstream moves and the dancing becomes more fun as the moves become more complex. Altogether, the students will learn over one hundred separate calls, but the classes are so fun and Jim, our caller, is so good that it does not seem like work to our students. Stop by some Tuesday (class is from 3 to 5 pm) and see if it is something you would like to do. Please check out our website at http://ohccvillagesquares.wix. com/villagesquares. Along with a monthly calendar of events, there are also links to other club dances in the area, videos of all the dance moves the students are learning, pictures, and videos of our club events, and even a video of Sam, the square dancing dog. Any questions, please contact our president, Pete Cannon at OHCCVillageSquares@gmail.com. Ocean Hills Dance Troupe We are thrilled that we were selected to perform at the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Departments' Talent Show. The show features senior citizens. There were 44 acts that auditioned or submitted videos of their performance, and we were one of the 22 selected to perform. The talent show took place at the PHame Performing Arts Center at Patrick Henry High School in San Diego. Wearing our sailor costumes, we did one of our favorite tap numbers - Anything Goes. It is lively dance and has many complicated tap steps. We enjoyed performing for the wonderful audience. We are also in the midst of learning numbers for our 2020 show. The show theme will be the circus. Therefore, we would like to find some talented people who might be willing to step up and perform some of their special skills. We are looking for someone who can juggle someone who might have a talented dog who can do a few tricks, and someone who does magic or even can walk on stilts! If you are one of these people or know of someone, please contact Connie Perkins at conniep7010@yahoo.com.
