| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2019 | 35 The Billiards Club enjoyed a terrific Professional Seminar conducted by Calvin Coker on Feb. 28. A capacity audience received a one and a half hour review of pool basics as well some of the finer points of the game. Some members took the opportunity to book a private lesson and purchase cues. We will be watching for improved play in the weeks ahead. Our April schedule features a Game Lesson, a Tournament, and an Advanced Lesson. This month's Game Lesson is Cut-Throat. A fun and social billiards game is the perfect three-person game. Each player is assigned a group of balls, and the object of Cut-Throat is to pocket the balls in your opponents' groups before they pocket yours. Join us on Thurs., April 4 at 1:30 pm to learn the rules and strategy of this popular game. Our Cut-Throat Tournament will be Thurs., April 25 at 1:30 pm. Here is an opportunity to test your skills and wits against the rest of the field and have some fun as well. On Thurs., April 11, at 1:30 pm, we will present an Advanced Lesson on "Banking." Bank shots refer to any shot where a rail is used to help pocket an object ball. Some bank shots hit the object ball to a cushion first while others use the cushion first and then hit an object ball. Either way, when you can execute these shots, you will have made a giant leap in your odds of winning. Visit the Billiards Club website at http://ohccbilliards.wixsite.com/billiardsclub for more information about the club and upcoming events. Billiards We walk and hike every two weeks on alternating Thursdays and Fridays. The walk is typically one and a half to two miles on relatively level terrain. The hike is usually three and a half to four and a half miles with 200 to 500 feet of elevation gain. After the hike, we go to lunch together. We only had one hike on Feb. 28, the earlier ones were rained out. In March, we will hike Elfin Woods, Wilderness Gardens & Torrey Pines. Our scheduled hikes in April are on April 12 at Daley Ranch Sage Trail and April 25 at Santa Rosa Plateau. Hopefully the flowers will still be blooming. We are asking for more volunteers to lead the hikes. It does not entail major work. I will still send out hike announcement emails before the date of the scheduled hike. The Hike Master usually picks the restaurant, prepared directions to hike and lunch, and has maps made and copied at the Clubhouse. Bill Nupp has been kind enough for many years to be the Hike Master, please volunteer The new schedule and any updated information will be posted on the web at: www.ohwh-club.com/walkers-hikers/schedule sometime this month. For each hike, we meet at 8:30 am in the overflow parking lot by the Clubhouse and car pool to and from the hike. Passengers give the driver some cash for gas. Always bring water, a hat, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes. Walkers and Hikers Calvin sitting on corner pocket at Diamonds
