FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2019 23 Landscape Committee The blossoms are on the trees, it's warming up and it's time to really enjoy our gardens and the beautiful landscaping we have here in Four Seasons. Your landscape committee is out every Friday morning walking our community and monitoring our landscape for any problem areas. We work with our three vendors, Artistic, Park West, and O'Connell, to address issues in HOA maintained areas. There was some frost damage to our landscaping and, for many plants, pruning back the damage will allow them to return to health. It is an ongoing aim of the committee to identify plants that do better than others in our community. Being mindful of cost, we are slowly replacing poor performing plant material with plants that we know will do better in our climate. For homeowner maintained gardens start weeding. All that rain, along with the longer days of the season, means the weeds will start sprouting with a vengeance. Our vendors are well aware of this and are vigilantly working to keep our common areas under control. (Luckily, rain softens the soil, making weeding much easier on the hands and back.) Tackle them now while they're seedlings to prevent them from taking over your garden. This is a wonderful form of exercise. According to a recent article in the Home and Garden section of our local paper, "Gardening is common among blue zone centenarians. Gardening is a source of daily physical activity with a wide range of motion, a way to get vitamin D from the sun, and helps reduce stress. Being outdoors in nature is also associated with better mental health." So enjoy! Any homeowner concerns related to the landscaping in HOA maintained areas can be addressed by contacting FirstService. Forms are available at The Lodge front desk or in person at our monthly meeting. We meet the third Tuesday of the month at 1 pm in the RCN. Anyone interested is welcome to join us. All are welcome to join us on our Friday walks. Please fill out an application found on line so that we can notify you of the time and location of the walks. ~ Mona Swinehart
