| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2019 | 9 By Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly What do you think about Sun Lakes? How about the people, the people living within the walls, are they nice people? Do you think they are good neighbors? There are some in the city of Banning who 'HATE' us! You heard right, they 'HATE' us! They will do anything to berate us, try to take us down in the muck and mire where they live. They believe we had too much power in the city, so they changed the City Council to Districts. Instead of a free election city-wide, we vote in Districts. The problem was Sun Lakers voted and most of the residents of Banning did not. Therefore we elected Sun Lakers to office. We elected interested and qualified candidates to operate the business of our city. To find a qualified candidate, we do not have to scrounge around in the district. We have hundreds who could do the job. Our residents are middle class workers, some with degrees, some without. Some are cops or firemen, some are businessmen and women, or lawyers or doctors or nurses. Name an occupation, I'll bet there is someone here who fits the profession or job profile. I am writing about the people who spend thousands of dollars each year to help the needy in our community. The District Delegates each month collect food or funds for the Banning Senior Center, for the Holiday Wish Program to give toys to needy kids and supplies to their parents at Christmas time. We contribute during Charity Week to donate more than a million dollars over the years to qualified charities in the Pass Area. Check our gates in the morning and you will see hundreds of Sun Lakers exiting to donate their time to the schools, charities, libraries, food services in the cities in the San Gorgonio Pass. Sun Lakers have an official group contributor representing them, the Board of Directors of SUN LAKES CHARITABLE TRUST. The organization is a 501 (c)(3), registered with the State of California. They are authorized to collect and donate funds according to the laws of the State. The Trust was established in 2008. Since that time, we have made many changes and updates to keep qualified as a charity. We are also aware we missed some new provisions enacted by the State of California, but we managed to catch up and stay current. Please don't believe the propaganda from the 'HATERS' — we are the best thing that has happened to the city of Banning for a century. If you want any information or have questions about our organization, all you have to do is ask. We are not going anywhere nor do we do anything except donate funds to our needy.
