58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2019
The Four Seasons Paddle Tennis Group
recently held a spirited tournament ending in
a tie between the red and blue teams amidst
great merriment, followed by a potluck at the
main pool. The score went back and forth
between the two teams as encouragement
and jokes, along with the balls, soared over
the nets. Potluck foods included everything
from Mexican tamales to Thai curry.
As a newcomer, I have been heartily
welcomed by this small but energetic group.
We play hard but not too seriously, always
with good-natured comments from the
peanut gallery. We rotate frequently so you
will never be sitting more than five minutes.
Paddle tennis is ideal for those who love
regular tennis but view a regular size tennis
court as a tarmac. The court is smaller
and the net lower. It is played with a special
depressurized tennis ball. Scoring is the same
as regular tennis. Paddle tennis is easy to learn
(even for those who don't have a background
in racquet sports), fast-paced and lots of fun.
Summer hours are from 6 to 8 pm,
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday nights. Two hours provide a very
good workout. Paddle tennis is a great way
to get out of the house on beautiful summer
evenings for fun, camaraderie, or to lose
a pound or two. You will receive a warm
welcome. Spare paddles are available for
you to try it out. All are welcome. We look
forward to meeting you on the paddle tennis
courts at The Lodge. ~ David Tucker
